I was there for the well-attended CARAG meeting, and noticed a sign that would appear to ban guns, naturally not conforming to MPPA. Next time I'm down there, I'll write down the text. Of course, since the city parks system is public property, it can't post at all.

Bring a camera -- or can we just ask DeanC to drop by? :)

It's inside the lobby, not anywhere near the doors.

Where is Bryant Square Park? I might be able to hit it tomorrow. I don't have my camera with me today.

Oh- but I do have a phone camera. Hmmm....

It may be posted because there is a school on the park grounds. I'm not sure.

Am I mistaken? Schools don't need to be posted do they?

No, they don't, but they tend to anyway. My son's K-8 school is posted, but my daughter's high school isn't (at least not MPPA-style).

I came across a district run pre-school that had a sign up in the style of a school crossing zone that specifically mentioned permit holders were not allowed to carry firearms into the building.

If they're going to get specific, they should also say, "without the permission of the principal". I asked my son if I should ask his principal for a note, just for fun. He said, "please don't do that, he already doesn't like me".

I had a small town principle go through one of my carry classes in 2003. I asked him if he was aware of the specifics of carrying on school property. He said yes, so I asked if he would give me written permission. His response was something to the effect of "no, the school board would have his butt" :)

I should ask my father, a former k-6 principle in St Paul, if he would have given approval. I doubt it 20 years ago but now day maybe because things have changed and not for the better. He is glad to be retired!

He took weapons away from K-6 graders and supended 20 to 30 kids a year for fighting. He was threatened by gang members many times. Two years ago his old school was one that was locked down off of White Bear Ave when the gang member shot the two Sheriff deputies serving a warrent.

It sounds like the Hennepin County Libraries had some left over signs and gave them to the parks.

So does Reaver like to shoot hoops

They're very nervous about the issue. It's common at my daughters' school for parents to come in and discuss various issues with the classes -- in fact, they try to solicit such things. Her idea (not mine) was that I come in and talk about gun safety. Her vice principal -- a very nice woman -- felt obligated to bounce that up to the assistant superintendent level, apparently.

I'm not holding my breath. (And we're not talking about getting permission to carry there -- for that, I'll save my breath to cool my soup.)
