Post subject:  Duluth Waterfront and Two harbor's waterfront
I am wondering if anyone knows if the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center in Duluth's Canal Park is owned by the City? I know it is operated by the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers. I was up there this weekend and didn't go inside because I wanted to play it safe, but I was also wondering if the peers are owned by the Feds, or the Duluth Port Authority?

Two Harbors is the same thing, their peer that streaches out has U.S. Coast Guard signs on it, I believe they are just warning signs not to dock your boat on to the peer but want to play it on the safe side and see if anyone knows who exactly owns them.

I made a call up there and the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center is owned by the Army Corps of Engineers but the person believed the peers were owned by the city.

The Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center is operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers. I believe it's administrated by a maritime association and the actual building is city property.

The peer in two harbors is similar. The navigational aids are operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers where the city owns the property.

Generally federal entities post if they don't want you carrying weapons (ie. Postoffice, Vetrans Administration, etc).

I would be more concerned about accidentally carrying into Wisconsin than I would be with the waterfront and peer.

Yup. Carried on the pier, in the museum, and in the rest of Duluth and the surrounding area last fall without a hitch. Concealed, of course- no need to get the Duluth PD's skivvies in a twist when I'm enjoying a vacation with my wife.

If you must know the locals don't usually refer to them as piers or peers. The common phrase is " break wall."

Can the Corps ban on property they operate, under Federal law? I'm wondering if it's any different than a post office in a strip-mall.

They can only ban weapons on property that's owned by the federal goverment. In relating to the US Army Corp of Engineers, that's Title 36 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

but it's really hard to be 'punny' with 'break wall'!!! (you pretty much have to stoop to 'break wind' with that one...) :oops:
