I did a search but couldn't find any postings (no pun intended) on Cabellas.
I was there today and there is a sign (like on every other entrance door) that states "for the safety of all, please check your guns at the service counter".
Is this new? Old? How can a place that sells that many guns suggest such a thing?

I believe its in reference to there gunsmith services and long guns. Its similar to the request at gun shows, so they can give you a safety cable or whatever they call the small zip ties.

Really? Thats not what it reads like. But you could be right.
I asked the guy at the pistol counter today about it and he just gave me a "sigh" about it.

I have questioned them about their policy and was told that if they don't see it your fine. Not sure how that works with the law but that is what I was told by a person at the customer service desk.

Most sporting goods places that I go to have a sign to that affect somewhere near their door. When I brought in my shotgun to Gander Mountain, I brought it to customer service, they asked me to show them that it's empty. While I opened it, they explained that that they just want to see that the gun is empty and put a sticker on the case to show it isn't being stolen.

If its not a legal sign, there is no legal issue.. Even if it was a legal sign, you can ignore it until you're been asked to leave..

They havea similar sign at the Gander that I go to. I was told it is in reference to firearms that are to be serviced.

They have a similar sign at the Mankato Gander Mountain. But the last part of it states that this does not pertain to persons carrying under the Minnesota permit to carry law.
