Hi all,
Upopn entering the shopping mall at 7101 France Avenue in Edina, MN I saw a sign that read, "Leisure Lane Bans Guns on These Premises" posted by the front door. United Properties owns this space so they should know better, but when I went inside I noticed that none of the stores inside were posted that I could see. So I was wondering about who here is best equipped to handle chatting with these folks about the landlord provision of the new law?
Thanks,
Mike

Just thought I would throw an update at you folks. I just received a email from a guy at United Properties about their illegal postin at thier Leisure Lane shopping complex in Edina.

Here is the exact email exchange I have had to date with these folks.

To whom it may concern,
Recently I was in Leisure Lane Edina Shopping Mall, when I noticed that it had a sign out front saying Leisure Lane Edina Bans guns on these premises. I am wondering if this is a sign you have at all of your United Properties owned locations, or if this is just at this location?

The reason I am asking this is because according to state law it is unlawful for a tenant to restrict the Lawful carrying of a firearm by a tenant or their guests. I am enclosing the exact state statute to help clarify matters.

State Statue 624.714 Subd. 174e
(e) A landlord may not restrict the lawful carry or
possession of firearms by tenants or their guests.

I am also enclosing a link to the State Statute as well.

Thank you for your attention to this matter,

Their Reply

Hello Mike,

The purpose of this message is acknowledge receipt of your email regarding signage at Leisure Lane Shopping Center that refers to banning guns from the premises. This property is owned by a client of United Properties and United Properties specifically is not taking any position on this matter at this time with our tenant(s). Thank you for providing information on the Statute 624.714 Subd. 174e.

Sincerely,

Rob Loftus

Finally my response to them.

Hi Rob,
I understand a companies unwillingness to take a position on any political matter. But just so that you have all the facts, by posting that sign with the United Properties name on it your company is taking a position. Finally, the position United Properties has chosen is contrary to Minnesota law, and even though this location is posted it doesn't prohibit lawfully carried firearms on these premises by your tenants, their customers or the public in general.
Thanks for your time,
Mike *****
