Actually, thinking of alternative weapons, I think it would be hillarious ( i know I shouldn't say that) if the place got robbed by crooks using rolls of quarters in tube socks.

Seems like in a lot of recent bank robberies the crook just hands the teller a note that says "this is a robbery" and may not even threaten having a weapon of any sort.

In the west metro area last summer there was a guy who robbed a bunch of banks (including the loretto one that has been posted for being posted) with a note asking for 10-100$ dollars. The wording was usually like "Give me $20".

That's right, I remember that, he hit the "The Bank of Elk River" Maple Grove W*M location then he hit the Lorreto gun free zone.

Is it me, or are there more bank robberies lately than normal? I'm surprised we don't have more of them, crooks like the path of least resistance and banks don't offer any resistance at all. While the bank robbery last week St. Anthony resulted in a capture, how often does that occur?

As a long time scanner listener & having an ex-wife that used to work for a big local bank, my take is this...

1. We are having what seems like a few more, but relly just more publicized. I have heard many crimes occur, including bank robberies that just have not made the news coverage or had very little. The ones we've heard about lately have just had a "higher profile", especially in the way of the news agencies trying to find a way to tell the police how they should be doing their jobs.

2. I agree with the banks not offering resistance, as they're trained to be sheeple. But there are a large number of other robberies that occur around the Twin Cities that we never hear about. From the criminals point of view, a local stop & rob only gets me county or state time. Banks get me the Federal hammer.

3. Not being LEO, just a layperson that listens in, it would seems that they apprehend about 5-15% within the first 48hrs, another 60-75% within a month or teo of investigations and the rest go unsolved until arrested for same or similar offenses down the road. That would be my purely subjective, minimally informed guess.

I think it was Jesse James that said: "We rob banks because that's where the money is".

Would you risk your life for your employer's money? I'm paid a lot more than a bank teller and I sure wouldn't.

People didn't use to resist airline hijackers, either. Things can change.

I think it was Jesse James that said: "We rob banks because that's where the money is".

Willie Sutton:
Quote:
Because that's where the money is” was apparently the reason given by Willie Sutton when asked why he kept robbing banks. Even though that statement may be correct, Willie Sutton never said it like this – as he explains in his book “Where the Money Was.” Still, it evolved into one of those urban myths, quoted many times.
