As suggested, and by request from a fellow who called today looking for a class in early October, this is a place for carry permit instructor organizations which have been certified by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety to, if they wish, announce themselves, and describe their offerings and orientation, and for others to discuss such things.

I emphasize: which have been certified, as opposed to, say, expect to be certified. Any organization listed on the DPS website as a certified instructor organization has, obviously, been certified. At present, while at least one organization has been certified -- IFIA has been; I don't know of any others [that was true as of that posting; other organizations have been certified since. JR] -- there is no DPS web page listing these organizations [ditto. Not all certified organizations are listed on the DPS site at the moment. JR]. Any organization which has recieved word that they have been certified but has not yet had a listing on the DPS website and which wishes to post a listing here may do so, but -- absent public notice from the DPS -- must first contact a moderator of this Forum or the administrator (that's me -- joelr@twincitiescarry.com) and give sufficient information to persuade the moderator or administrator that they have been certified, and been given permission.

Each organization may start one topic in this particular forum, which should be entitled: "[name of organization] Certified by the DPS".

The posting must:

1. be made by an officer, owner, employee, principal, or other person authorized to do so on behalf of the organization.

2. give contact information for the organization. As much or as little as you like. But something, at least.

3. give specific facts about the organization that the organization wishes to share publicly, and is willing to have discussed publicly. Name, address, principals, principles, (:D), fees, requirements, etc.

4. not make explicit comparisons to other organizations, either objective or subjective. No "While Brand X organization is a bunch of losers, we're the real gun guys" of course. "We charge $250 for a five-year certification," is just fine. "While Brand X charges $500, we only charge $250" is not.

5. be written by somebody who understand the difference between a posting and an ad. This is a posting.

[added September 26] Those instructor organizations who ask for it will be given the Forum rank of "DPS Certified Instructor Organization." This may or may not override other ranks, such as Administrator or moderator.
