Minnesota Association of Defensive Firearm Instructors

We welcome all qualified firearm instructors in Minnesota to join us, and offer several distinct benefits:

We are non-profit:

Our training costs from $50 to $200, depending on your current skills, experience and previous certifications. Our annual fee is $25.

How can we do it? The organization works because we work together. We support instructors. We are instructors.

We've already done the heavy lifting:

To self-certify, you need to register a business, submit an application including a full instructor training curriculum (yes, to train yourself), and wait to get it approved by the Department of Public Safety.

We've already done that.

Join our organization, pass our class (It'll take about half a day for some NRA-certified instructors, and up to two days for those with no formal training), and you're all set.

We keep supporting you:

We don't hand you a certificate and show you the door. We keep you informed with legal and curriculum updates, offer an online forum to exchange ideas and materials with other instructors, and use a cooperative method of validating our instructors' courses to ensure instructional quality (but don't worry -- it's easier than it sounds).

We encourage you to contact us to find out more.

Congratulations, MADFI!

(Full disclosure: I'm not an owner of, principal of, employee of, or spokesman for MADFI. I do expect that I will, in due course, be certified by MADFI as well as other certified instructor organizations. JR)
