SAFE has been approved by DPS. We are a non-profit organization of professionals dedicated to providing a wide range of information, education, and training services. Whether offering free firearm safety training to children in poor communities, providing information for healthcare professionals, or teaching self-defense for battered women, SAFE is committed to providing quality firearm training and education, especially to those whose personal situations make it practically or financially difficult for them to obtain.

Instructor Certification

SAFE is approved by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety as an Instructor Organization qualified to certify trainers to teach the Minnesota Permit to Carry Course. We are listed on the BCA website:

http://www.dps.state.mn.us/bca/Invest/D ... ssPPA.html

Many instructors will no longer be approved to conduct classes after October 1, 2005. If you are currently certified as an Instructor by NRA and/or any other recognized training organization, and wish to continue teaching courses, you may register your own organization with the State of Minnesota and apply for approval with the DPS:

http://www.dps.state.mn.us/bca/Invest/D ... earms.html

If you do not wish to invest the time and expense to register and maintain your own organization, and would prefer to become certified by SAFE, we will train you, maintain all administrative records, and keep you updated with current legal and instructor information. The cost is a one-time charge of $175.

Your certificate is valid for five (5) years.

There are no annual fees, no per-student fees, and no “captive” contracts; you are free to teach whomever, and whenever, you wish.

Instructors need only agree to conform to the legal requirements of the MCPPA and the DPS, and to abide by SAFE administrative and ethical guidelines.

For further information, or to schedule a class, contact John Caile at 612-240-6080 or:
