Post subject:  Wanted - Firearm safety class for kids - Twin Cities area

A friend and I are looking for a 'Certified' firearm safety course for our two 11 year olds (soon to be 12) and we live in the Twin City Metro area (So. Mpls. and Eden Prairie). We were hoping for a class that might be spread over a couple longer days vs. some of the places offering a class one night a week for 8 weeks etc.

If you offer or know of someone who does offer this type of class, please feel free to post here or email me at lkjohn@earthlink.net.

Best Regards,

Larry

Me too. I have 12 & 14 y/o kids that I would love to get trained up quicker than the current DNR courses. I am also in So. Mpls. At last resort, something close by with the std training.

Well, only the DNR course qualifies for a hunting permit.

If you just want a safety course, I know a dozen NRA instructors (me included) certified to teach Home Firearm Safety.

You could even take the DNR Instructor course (at no cost I am told) and teach the kids yourself.

My wife and I will take it on feb 25

How much time is involved in that? And where?

DNR instructor training takes about 4 hrs and you are given a lot of material to read on your own. No cost to you. I post the classes (instructor) as they come up under the Training & Ed. catagory on this forum. I would be happy to answer any questions...call or pm.

Also whenever a class (student) is listed on the DNR website it fills almost immediately. Check often and jump on one right away. Our first class filled in 2 days. I am trying to schedule another in Wdby mid march......need to find some help..........any takers?

As long as there is one certified Instructor present, others can be non- certified and help out :) Good way to get your feet wet is to work with existing Instructor before doing them on your own.
