Sorry, I'm just full of questions.

There were no holster draws involved last time, but you will need one to put your gun in at the end of the string.

Mac, did you get the package with your XD. If so, the holster and the mag carrier will work just great.

You are wrong and that is the difference between target shooting and point shooting.

I missed your targets, but I hit everything that I was pointing at.....

Ah, yes, I've heard of that, "if you aim at nothing, you're bound to hit it"

Jocularity aside, I've just received confirmation, we are on for the 23rd.
If someone is willing to organize a BBQ and potluck, there's plenty of room to grill.

Is the same format as last time OK with everyone?

My XD came with the gear, which was a big selling point for me. I guess now I'll finally have a chance to use it. Really looking forward to trying steel shooting for my first time and meeting you folks.

Last time's format was fine, but I'd actually much rather work from a holster.

I know we didn't last time `cause a few people didn't bring one, but since we can announce it in advance, let's.

Andrew,

My only reservation in working from the holster is that the less skilled could pose a safety problem. Anyone who has an IPSC or IDPA training class should know the drill, but those without that training I would prefer we start at the Cooper ready.

I would be prepared to hold a short class before we start to bring neophytes up to speed on the safety concerns and have some pre-shoot dry drills.

IPSC or IDPA clasification cards required show the completed training seems reasonable.

I don't know, are you trained to use a holster.......LOL

Seriously though, and I don't mean to cast aspersions, LEOs typically make more of the rooky mistakes when they begin shooting competitively than ordinary neophytes.

20 years of watching new IPSC shooters as an RO.

I've heard much the same from 2 or 3 other RO's and several people who shoot IDPA /IPSC.

I wasn't aware we were shooting ISPC, USPSA or IDPA.

I'm amazed some days how I manage to survive a shift without shooting myself or someone else.

FWIW, I've been qualifying from the holster against a timer for the past 4 years. I've shot a couple of USPSA matches, but I'm not a member of any of the organizations. Not to cast aspersions (I love the way people say that, then merrily cast away regardless) I've also seen some crap gunhandling amongst the so-called 'experten' (not anyone on here), so let's not be living in glass houses here, anybody can screw up.

My 2 cents: If we are going to shoot from the holster, it's going to unfairly penalize the 'neophytes' amongst us. We should keep it as it is, from an unholstered start.

The intent was not to cast aspersions but to lend credence to the safety policy set. If we want to set and be sure of a safety policy, it makes sense to me to have a single standard and method.

I certainly didn't intend to give offense.

Your comment about a level playing field makes sense. The flip side would be qualifying anyone who may want to try holster work against the clock in a supervised, safe environment. This would seem like a great opportunity to learn a good safe holster method, practice it, get some tips and hints, and gain some competence.

Man, I'm more and more sad to miss this event.

good luck and safe shooting.
