My only reservation in working from the holster is that the less skilled could pose a safety problem. Anyone who has an IPSC or IDPA training class should know the drill, but those without that training I would prefer we start at the Cooper ready.

I would be prepared to hold a short class before we start to bring neophytes up to speed on the safety concerns and have some pre-shoot dry drills.

IPSC or IDPA clasification cards required show the completed training seems reasonable.

My 2 cents: If we are going to shoot from the holster, it's going to unfairly penalize the 'neophytes' amongst us. We should keep it as it is, from an unholstered start.

Really looking forward to trying steel shooting for my first time and meeting you folks.

Bring the loader doo hicky too. It'll save some thumb wear, ear protection and shooting glasses and a hat. Sunblock water lots of ammo, sense of humour..............cash..........did I miss anything?

FWIW, I've been qualifying from the holster against a timer for the past 4 years. I've shot a couple of USPSA matches, but I'm not a member of any of the organizations. Not to cast aspersions (I love the way people say that, then merrily cast away regardless) I've also seen some crap gunhandling amongst the so-called 'experten' (not anyone on here), so let's not be living in glass houses here, anybody can screw up. The intent was not to cast aspersions but to lend credence to the safety policy set. If we want to set and be sure of a safety policy, it makes sense to me to have a single standard and method. I certainly didn't intend to give offense. Your comment about a level playing field makes sense. The flip side would be qualifying anyone who may want to try holster work against the clock in a supervised, safe environment. This would seem like a great opportunity to learn a good safe holster method, practice it, get some tips and hints, and gain some competence. Man, I'm more and more sad to miss this event. good luck and safe shooting.
