I'm on the far end of Hennepin County in Bloomington. I completed my class for CCW and I just thought of a question that I didn't think of in the class. I hope someone in here can let me know the answer.
The Hennepin County sheriff's office is downtown and quite a hassle to get to for me with the hours it is available. I actually live closer to the Scott County office. Am I allowed to go in there to apply for the permit?
Thank you in advance.

Nope. Because you are a resident of Hennepin County thou must goest downtown during business hours and deliver thy permit application + $100 in person. Thou must be prepared to wait while they run you through the system to see if there are any wants & warrants against thee. Then they send thee upon thy way to wait 30 days, no more, no less.
(That's it...no more chinese for lunch)

not quite correct - it may take MORE than 30 days for the permit to show up...

Naw. Drop off the materials, ask for your receipt. They have 30 days to run your background. You don't need to stand around for it.

The only exception is if you move out of state permanently. Then you could apply at the Scott Co. Sheriff's office.

My memory is not always perfect, but the sheriffs office for the Hennepin county permits is kinda tucked away in the Grain Exchange building.

I always get in the wrong elevator that's locked out to that floor.
Anyhow the place to apply is not in city hall, hope that helps your travels a bit.

Granted, I didn't ask for my receipt immediately, but I didn't get it until they were "done."

Do not leave the office without your signed receipt.
It is up to us to make them comply. It's good training and they need it.
The LAW is clear enough even for a sheriff's clerk to understand.
Quote: Upon receipt of an application packet and any required fee, the sheriff must provide a signed receipt indicating the date of submission." Minn. Stat. sec. 624.714, subd.3(j).
There is no delay authorized nor any "discretion" involved.

And let me just say once again what a well-crafted law it is. Thank-you.
