As a practical matter however I have always been in condition green in any sort of secure facility where I have been working. I tend to work for places that do pre-hire background checks, and I trust the people I work with when it comes to personal safety. For others, it may be different.
Sure.
Of course,
people in secure facilities sometimes flip their lids, too.
I work for a defense contractor. My building is rated as "top-secret", supposedly police/fire aren't even allowed in without security escort...although I'd like to see them enforce that in an emergency.
Anyway, we're not allowed to carry in our building and it is a secure building. We have armed patrols throughout the building and parking lot.
However, one of our other locations, which as far as I know had the same setup, had a mass shooting a couple years back. Disgruntled current employee who, ironically enough, was attending a mandatory diversity training, absolutely flipped. Went to the parking lot, retrieved a weapon, came back to the building and started shooting. He shot himself when police arrived.
So while I should have probably one of the most secure workplaces in the country, we still have history that proves otherwise.
I shouldn't be restricted from taking responsibility for my own safety.
