It's verypossible I read something that wasn't there...either way, if there's no legal precedent set in many of these scenarios...it doesn't matter a whole lot what the law says...ask Treptow.

Sometimes yes, reading and entire thread is certainly not a prereq to comment...I just admitted it before somebody pointed out something I missed on page x,y,or z...that I didn't even read.
Often times, one can catch the general track of a thread by either frequenting the board and knowing the tendencies of the posters or reading page 1 and seeing where it's going...I can opine from there. You probably visit the board daily so I doubt there's a thread on here where you're more than a page behind. I don't visit daily and I don't care to read every page of what I've missed between visits.
Obviously, it's not a big deal, I'm just sayin'

"I can't be bothered to read your opinions before stating mine." Got it.

The opinions expressed could be based upon the larger conversation. Not being aware of the full context could leave you in a pigeon hole.

It's funny though, even if you did read all of the pages, and post your own opinion that is close to another person's opinion, you get reamed.

That's always been my experience at least.
I'm a regular and I tip well. Really well. 25% minimum well.
Because of that, after fighting the traffic in the parking lot for ten minutes and shouldering my way past the waiting crowds at the door, when the bartender sees me coming across the room, my beer is on the bar before I've had a chance to sit down. I've got a menu before I've gotten my jacket off.
Sometimes the service is very much worth the wait (and the tip).

He was in the car with y'all, too? I'd think that'd be uncomfortable. Heck, just tell HIM to go break up the fight.
(My impression of the scenario here is, you make the exact same decision about intervention that you would have made before you started carrying. If you would have jumped out and stood in between them before, or yelled at him to stop as you dialed 911, or drove away chuckling at life's little ironies, do the same.
But, if you do intervene, and AH#1 then grabs his baseball bat and comes at you - that's when you start your mental checklist about retreat and reluctance and reasonable. And, if you decide that AH1 is in fact about to seriously injure AH2 beyond a basic beatdown, you do your "defense of others" checklist (that's the one that starts with "but I don't even KNOW this AH . . .")
So, just by the hypothetical as given, I wouldn't think of this as a "carry" dillemna.)
