Is there a list somewhere? Are such court orders currently exceptional or have they become routine?

The sheriff should let you know when you send him your letter. If s/he doesn't I'm not sure if contempt of court charges would stick . . . except, of course, that it would be a gun-hating judge attempting to make them stick.

I would not rely on the defense of "I never got it in my Sheriff's packet." Court orders are matters of public record (save sealed/minors/etc...) and you are considered to have constructive knowledge of the Order. Then there are the courthouses that have copies of the Order on the entrance - actual knowledge. If you want to know for sure (without getting misinformation from the uninformed), contact the county clerk of court and request a copy of any courts orders on this subject.

Just think of all the obscure traffic laws that justify traffic stops (can't use wire to secure your license plate, must make turns as close to the inside of your lane as possible, coasting is illegal, no sheep in the city limits)

IAYLSDROT (I ain't your lawyer so don't rely on this)
