nothing like a misleading thread title
Okay so i owe you all a thank you first of all. And an apology. So i'm a lazy student i guess, and a bit of a procrastinator. He gave us a month to write to the paper and research but i put it off until the last two days.... but I just took a deep breath and said... where do i start. I had always planned to ask for your opinions (hence my registration date on the forum), as well as the opinions of local gun clubs and gun shops, but the only thing I ever got done was coming on here and starting that other thread a couple days be4 the paper was due. Anyways december as i'm sure for all of u got really busy, and it was busier than my lazy butt could handle. All in all I didn't even write a paper I just studied for the final that he was going to have us take becuz that was worth more points than the paper so towards the end it more like "what do i have to do to not fail the class" So I apologize, and I looked online and i did get a "D" in the class if that helps any
But I was asked my own personal views.... and to tell u the truth I think that all of you for whatever reasons in ur support of the 2nd Amendment or for whatever reason but I think that coming soon in this country it's ppl that support the words of our constitution and/or Bill of rights/Amendments are the ppl that will be on short supply. So i thank you and those of you that will or already have put ur azzes on the line in support. i'm not 21 until August and have not thought about getting a permit (i dont even own a handgun lol) but coming on here has maybe opened my mind to the idea a bit more.
but i have to go to work. I might post more as long as I'm not getting death threats from this thread lol. ttyl

I think death threats for disenting oppinions usually happens a lot more on the DFL's message board than ours j/k.
While everybody is anxious to read your paper . .. . there is no sense in supporting the second if you aren't going to support the first. Even if you were completely wrong I don't believe anybody here would threaten you physically. I don't speak for this board though . . . I just know these to be a great group of guys and gals.

Well, "people (sorry, ppl) who support the words of our Constitution" may be in short supply, but I guess we'll at least have sociologists who are too lazy or busy to study English.
Maybe those folks can support the Second Amendment for the next fifty years. (except in December when they get busy)
Tyler, maybe you could just text in your next assignment. You wouldn't even need to get out of bed to do that. Might be good for a D+ and bring up your average.
Good luck in 2009.

Ah, reminds me of my student days. I passed a sociology final, with a 'C' I think, by intensively studying the table of contents of the textbook right before the test. At my current rate of progress I will get my BA in the year 2047.
Tyler, enjoy winter break, and let us know what grade you get!

To get death threats you would have to have people understand what it is that you wrote. I'm having a hard time.
I am as much of a procrastinator as anyone ( a couple of months ago I submitted a final assignment for a class that was due at midnight at 11:59), but, dammit, it does not take all that long to type out the words "you" and "people".

Good ol' Rex says "she should be "hung". (So he can rhyme w/tongue.)
When speaking of executions, it is properly pronounced "hanged".
I've never seen the movie or the play...

Due the vast amounts of texting that young people do nowadays, they have developed their own shortcuts that are routinely used among themselves. Words like "ppl", among others, are used and understood by them all.
In this forum, IANAL is used frequently. IANAL is not routinely used in other internet forums like gaming forums. Consequently, it can be confusing for a newcomer. If you visit forums used by young people nowadays, you will find Tyler's style of posting quite common.
It should be adequate when one person corrects him and asks him to write in proper English.... but to have several people make fun of his style isn't the proper thing to do. Twincitiescarry.com is not just for us over 40 types. Youngsters are the future of this movement. When someone posts for the first time we should encourage them instead of ridiculing them.
Tyler aplogised and thanked us all. We should have been gracious enough to just let it be. Thanks to this "welcome", he probably will never visit this forum again and that would be the tragedy in all this.

A kind suggestion: Please do yourself a favor and take an english literacy course or two. I know they no longer teach anything of noteworthy effect in the K-12 public school system (as it regards vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and writing), but certainly there must still be something available at the university level.
Your post hurt my eyes to read. I don't intend that to be mean, just to let you know that there are still some of us left out there who appreciate the effort put in to well articulated thought. Interestingly enough, I imagine any prospective future employer might agree with me, even if they don't hold any of those several skills themselves.
Your post hurt my eyes to read.

Just for the record, I'm 28, and grew up with a keyboard in hand through the early days of BBS's, email, IM'ing, and texting. I understand it all, including most all acronyms I come across, and have used them many a time myself, when appropriate.
But I could barely stagger through the OP's first post.
Love that video, Horseradish!

That's funny because even though I had to read Tyler's post slowly, I understood it the first time.

Well I hope he sticks around. But several members put more work in his project than he did. It ain't the style, it's the attitude. He started it. That's how we all learn.
Hopefully the modern schools have protected his self concept for 20 years, so he won't be crushed by our comments. As Tyler goes through life, he'll begin to meet grownups and he needs to be ready for the experience.
But your point is valid.

Heck, people couldn't stop answering his survey even after the deadline. How much more encouragement should be needed? Dee wrote: Tyler aplogised and thanked us all. I highly doubt that his decision to come back or not would hinge on some mild ribbing about his writing style, or lack thereof. If you ever visit any of those "forums used by young people nowadays", you would see that this doesn't rate very high on the abuse scale.
