Unless a person gives the officer reason to ask or be concerned. There is no need to know!

Perhaps a better and more appropriate system might be to inform an officer if the drive has any convictions for violent offenses. My carrying a gun under a permit is of no consequence or danger to them. We are the good guys and gals remember.

If an Officer runs your Drivers License number or License Plate number is he informed if you are a permit holder? I have read that in some States permit status is linked to plates and drivers license. How about MN? Thanks

Some departments apparently have the policy that all DLs called in will get checked for carry permits. The information is NOT on your DL record. The firearm listing on the DL record is for firearm safety.

So nope, there is no system where it pops up while they run your plates. IIRC they have to call the 24hr phone number and ask for each and every person they want to verify.

When I was on the Grand Jury we had the option to inspect the jail and dispatch of the sheriff station, I think I was the first up & ready to go before the answers came. Anyway; when I got in the dispatch I asked if they would run my D.L. to show how it worked (we all know what I wanted to see don't we) SO NO P2C ON SCREEN, I then gave my P2C to the officer & he said(OK , we need to push another button AND PRESTO----Permit) He claimed they do not normally check for permits unless the officer requests it. Each office may have A different routine.

Yes, if they are going to sniff around your "underwear" they might as well check out every orfice. (That would be that I disagree that it should be part and parcel with driving records.)

Damn near any record/information can be checked. Most systems used around the state do most of it automatically when you run a 28 or 45. The agency (Courts, SO, PD, DNR, Probation, Social Services) running the report has to have there code attached to any records search. This log is inspected once a year against the agency and the purpose. I'm not saying it can't be abused but there is a system in place to track it's use. Also many agencies have there own system (in house), the in house system may contain any contact you have had with them, so picking up your P2C at the window could have been contact in that system.

The free personal information one can get on a person is staggering.And if one has the right "tools" it's scary what can easily be obtained. A DL check showing one has a carry permit should be the least of your worries. So it shows one has a permit if cops run your license/plates. . I can't see why it's a big deal. Because it is not relevant to the situation. Cops are demonstrably not in danger from permit holders. Since it has no bearing on the situation, it is an unlawful search.

I think it just makes sense to have this information automagically available to officers. They should also get your credit score as it may be of benefit to their safety as well. Also we may want to include you AGI from the previous years taxes as it may help indicate whether you can afford the vehicle you are driving or the bling you are wearing.

They would see that by running your plates/license. If you're clean, Odds are they won't mention your permit.
