The point is not whether you consider it spam. The question is, does your customer? I would bet that your customers would welcome the friendly reminder - as long as it doesn't look like the fake viagra ads... |

Ok Here's the plan.. The pistol is a Kel-tec .380 I'll carry the pistol in my right rear jean pocket in the Double Zippered GunRug that came with it..."the pistol [wil be] unloaded, contained in a closed and fastened case, gunbox, or securely tied package." I'll have an empty magazine in the pistol and carry a loaded magazine in another pocket. That should do it until i'm legal to carry again, Right? I can just tell the bad guy to wait a second while I get a round chambered.....
Can any of the instructors here put in a good word for me with Hennepin County to maybe get me processed in a week's time ??? |

You only had a 15-month window to take that class, and you left it for the last day. Even if I had any favors to burn with that county, I wouldn't be inclined to spend them.

12smile, I have to agree with Andrew on this. I'm in the same boat, I failed to check the expiration date on my permit recently, but had it in my head it was in June. When I realized it was March 19th I signed up for and took the next class Joel had scheduled. I submitted my renewal, but until I get it I'm going sans pistol. It's nobody's fault but my own that I failed to make a note of my expiration date and plan accordingly. Deal with your mistake and take your medicine, and no matter what you do, don't admit it anywhere if you carry while awaiting your renewal. Joel, FWIW, I wouldn't consider an e-mail about that to be spam. In retrospect, it would have saved my from my own short-sightedness. (Not that it's your responsibility to do so, LOL.) You could always give people the opportunity by telling them they don't have to provide an e-mail address. |

I was glad to offer my email to them. I also liked the option to do it or not, plus, Im sure that if I wanted to be off the list they would oblige. |

For the record, I assume that anyone giving me their email address is ok with me using it occasionally. Never sold, never excessive use, but I do send out emails regarding laws, legal updates, clarification of fuzzy points. If I get asked a question I can't answer in class, my email list gets the answer. If my assumption is wrong, every email I send via the list comes with a single-click option to get off of the list. So far, that has come out to exactly six emails since last summer, so I think I'm safe from being called a spammer. |

Not to reduce this point to an absurdity...but how about getting it to the car from the house???...I do see that the above applies to "motor vehicle, snowmobile or boat" Another "Plan B"....how long will it take to get an out of state permit from let's say Utah?? I actually did pose this question to the instructor via his online registration system a while ago and never heard back....wish I had called ...I just assumed my permit wouldn't evaporate while the new one was being processed...kind of like a driver's license. |

No other state is going to issue you a permit in time for your expiration next week. Take some personal responsibility here: you screwed up, and you have to live with the consequences. You know what the problem is, you know what the work around is, you have to make the decision as to what you can live with. If you choose to be a test case I'll wish you all the luck in the world. I'm a believer in what Joel preaches: "test cases are for other people". |

re the spam issue. It is not spam to contact someone who GAVE you their email and it is someone you have a directly related interest or business deal. That is, it is not spam to send a reminder to a previous client that those services are still available. It would be spam to email a carry class customer about your wife's real estate business. For example. If I get within ten days of missing a "due" date on my insurance, my agent sends me a "reminder" email. This is not spam. I also have AAA roadside insurance and they have routinely sent me Emails touting rental and travel deals I explicitly told them I do not want. That is spam. As to the late filing. I messed up by forgetting to file before I left townfor two weeks. When I got back I talked to the lovely young woman behind the counter and explained why I was late and that I understood it could take thirty days, but that I would be very grateful if they could speed it up. It was in mail box two days before I would have expired meaning including the weekend it was done overnight. |
