This forum is full of lawyers, IT nerds, mailmen, janitors, burger flippers and pretty much anything you can think of. Most people run into the PTC thing head first with the "I'll do it my way" frame of mind. This forum is a quickly humbling experience. There is a shitton of collective knowledge and experience here. If you express an opinion or ask a question and get the same response from ten different people who have posts in the thousands, chances are they are right and you are wrong. It's good to see you took that slice of humble pie. These guys know what they are talking about.

I would suggest that in handling a periodic bank deposit involving substantial sums of cash, it is vitally important to be sure everything goes like clockwork. If it were me, I would stamp all the checks before leaving for the bank so that I could focus on the "courier role" rather than the "financial manager role" while performing the actual deposit.

I think that would be the easiest, cheapest, and most effective way to fix the problem, even though it has nothing to do with the root cause.



It's hard to tell from the narrative alone, but that for me would be very close to the point where I would call 911 and say that I'm making a bank deposit and feel unsafe because there is a group of 7-8 people surrounding me. The real issues here are that you don't want the situation to get out of control and you want to be the first one to call 911.



I know you've already decided not to follow through on this, but for the sake of completeness, let's finish out the scenario. As noted upthread, the crowd probably would have been confused by a badge and a gun without a uniform. Would it have helped in this particular case? Maybe, probably not. Are there other scenarios, also likely, that it would worsen? Yes.



I would be surprised if sitting there for 20 minutes would be the likely outcome though it depends what jurisdiction you're in.

I believe that the best security when transporting larger amounts of cash is to be sure no one around you knows you're doing it.

And some of us just work construction. But I can tell you from personal experiencein handling large sums of cash ( girl scout cookie money), trust me they make a haul, Never let it become routine go at diff times diff routes change up the courier role.
