Seems to me that the idea that you will be charged with "Disturbing the Peace" is rather baseless unless someone can point to actual examples. If police respond to a "man with a gun" call, hopefully, you are out there doing things that people normally do in their yards. I carry that way often myself and, in spite of living in a very liberal area, I really doubt that anyone has noticed (except the guy dropping off lit for Greg P. ...and I'm sure he was all for it) I wouldn't recommend standing at the end of your driveway with your arms folded, staring into the distance with camo on your face, but don't live in fear. There is no "test case" there.

I think people should be able to OC without being bothered by the police.

However, given the O.P.s specific fear... a crazy relative showing up suddenly and doing harm to his family... how does OC help? It would just let the crazy guy see you are armed, so he could come up with a better plan (sitting in a truck, down the street, with a rifle, your OC pistol won't help much then)

Why give up the element of surprise? How does it help in this situation?

Also, I hope you've pointed out that your wife could benefit from a permit too. I understand if she still won't carry. Many of us are in that situation :?

You're right. Problem is, they can still arrest you and make you go through the legal hassles (and cost you money and time in the process), along with holding on to your gun for a VERY long time.

Is there anyone on this forum who only has *one* carry weapon?

Not me, but that doesn't mean I want to give up one of my guns to thugs, even if they do have a badge.
