Generally, yeah, but you won't catch me there with my family at closing time on July 4th... ever.

Sentencing guidelines ..
Look on the bright side. They just PO'd the judge who will supervise the ~5 Year Probation that was in the plea agreement .

Quote: Though state sentencing guidelines call for a maximum sentence of one year and one day in prison, Perkins told the courtroom that a stayed sentence with probation would be more beneficial to the men. He added that the victim and his family approved of the plea deal. No kidding....letting them off scott free would also be more beneficial to the scum. I don't get the judge's point here. Know what little I do from reading the press, I'd have given them from 1 to 2 years.

You're all forgetting that these fine young upstanding gentlemen were just turning their life around. In fact they were all on their way to church to read the Bible to cancer-ridden children. Why can't you think of the children!?!?

Quote: Assistant Scott County attorney Kathleen Laughlin told Perkins that none of the men had jobs, most had small children and only two had graduated from high school or earned a G.E.D. She said relatively short jail terms are nothing compared with the suffering they caused. It seems a certainty that we'll be hearing from these poor youths in the future.

A lot of the comments about these individuals are well deserved, but if you go digging, I believe you will find that the reason these sentences are so light is that the father of the girl involved started the physical altercation and the thugs went OTT on defending the lewd individual (Evans) and retaliating for the pummeling he took.
We are very quick to apportion blame around here without ascertaining the facts of a situation. Hopefully if one of us is involved in a DGU that the reporters who write the story will do more fact finding than the average TCCarry member before spouting off.

I'm not going to fault a father for getting between punks and his child. Should he have, under law, and if he would have thought it through? Nope. Would the fathers around here have had such self-control (take guns out of the equation for that question)? I doubt it. -Mark

We are very quick to apportion blame around here without ascertaining the facts of a situation. Hopefully if one of us is involved in a DGU that the reporters who write the story will do more fact finding than the average TCCarry member before spouting off. Point me in the right direction for the facts then, please. What I've been able to find in media reports look like these excerpts from four different newspaper articles on the situation: Quote: Thus ended a case that stunned parents and others around the Twin Cities, where the assault led newscasts in early July 2008. Just after midnight on July 5 that year, the victim, who wasn't in court Tuesday and has never been publicly identified, was leaving Valleyfair when one of the men, Andrew Shannon, 20, tapped the victim's 15-year-old daughter on the head with an inflatable baseball bat.
The man responded by yelling at Shannon and the seven others with him. The group then attacked him. Quote: An Apple Valley man who was hit from behind and attacked by several men while on a July 4th outing to Valleyfair stood up, wiped the blood out of his eyes and saw a young man attacking his 15-year-old daughter.
The father, 41, grabbed the man, Terry L. Arnold, 22, put him in a head lock and punched him in the face. Then seven of Arnold's buddies jumped in, knocking the father down and kicking and jumping on him, according to a more serious assault charge filed Thursday against one of the suspects in Scott County District Court.
Blood streamed from the father's eyebrows as he lay by the "Guess Your Weight" game booth. His wife and a daughter tried to shield him from the blows, but he was knocked unconscious. Quote: As the family was leaving the park shortly before midnight, Shannon allegedly hit the girl's cousin on the head with an inflatable bat.
Words were exchanged between the two families, and by initial accounts to police, the victim's daughter was groped on the buttocks. Boyce said the groping has never been proved.
"There was almost no indication at all of that," he said. "I don't think that was accurate."
The victim's injuries, however, are undeniable.
One of the suspects allegedly pulled out a cell phone and called his relatives over. Soon, the two families were trading punches, and the victim was on the ground, being stomped and kicked in the head to unconsciousness. Quote: The incident began July 5 when the girl was reportedly accosted by two men. After a brief confrontation with her father, one of the men used his cell phone to call his friends at the park for help, saying he “needed his boys back over here to get these bitches.”
Soon, the father was severely beaten to unconsciousness — including having his face stomped on and kicked — by seven men and a juvenile male, authorities allege in court complaint filed in Scott County District Court. I'm completely in agreement that the local media is often incredibly biased and just plain incorrect, as you can see in the above inconsistencies, but until some other facts are shown that indicate contradictions to these reports in this case I guess the only thing I can do is believe the general content of them. Everything revealed in the articles indicates the father did not do anything remotely worthy of the 8 on one near-death beating that followed. I don't care how abusive he was to the original instigator, a quality human would know when enough is enough and would not have continued the massacre to the extent it was. BB

There's lots to this case that isn't in the news.
The attacking "family" is in fact a notorious crime family, specializing in prostitution.
They were not there to enjoy Valley Fair on the 4th of July, they were there to recruit for the stable.
The manner in which this is done is to find females of the appropriate age range (10-15), and test their tractability, normally though an assault on her self-esteem. If this is found lacking, they then move onto more advanced phases of recruitment.
In this case the process was interrupted by a loving father who objected. Naturally, they acted to protect their business interests.
But to report this factually in the mainstream media would be to paint a racist stereotype. Never mind that the victims were also black, and that it's the truth.

Not only not proven, but not reported by the VF security staff member who observed the incident and called for backup as the staff member was assigned to other duties, not physical security at the time Quote: The victim's instigator’s injuries, however, are undeniable. You will need the Shakopee police report if you want more details, VF will not publish their reports as they are not public information. The individual that gave me the information comes with unimpeachable credentials. Don't get me wrong, the beatdown was despicable, but there is more to the story than that written and broadcast by the media. Incidently the whole thing was over inside a minute, VF security arrived hotfoot, just in time to begin the cleanup.

Again, I'm not going to fault the father for getting between these wastes of oxygen and his child. No way.
And the security staffer didn't get involved because he wasn't ASSIGNED to physical security at that time? Shit, I'D have gotten involved, much less somebody who is paid to do it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, it's not smart. But it's me, and it's my stupidity to deal with.
Note I didn't say anything about getting involved with a gun.
