(Not quite sure where to post this, so...) I just received a copy of the Glock 09 annual. In it there is an article on St. Paul PD. In the article it states that St. Paul PD is now issuing Federal Tactical HST (180gr) to its officers. Can anyone confirm that? Any updates as far as what ammunition the departments in the metro area are issuing/recommending to their officers? TIA |

I asked about what St. Paul PD is using because in more than one place, from more than one "expert/instructor", I've heard and read the recommendation that you should use the same self defense ammunition as your local police department. The idea being if you are prosecuted for using your weapon, using the same ammo as the local PD would make it more difficult for a prosecuting attorney to use your choice of ammo against you and paint you as a gun nut. |

Baloney. Specifically use cop ammo, and the prosecutor could just as well try to paint you as a "wanna-be" cop. Use what's meant for your gun. Use factory ammo. If you fire your gun because you needed to, ammo choice won't make any difference. If you fire it when you don't need to, ammo choice won't help you. But cops do use quality ammo in general, and you should too. |

well if black talons, HSTs or gold dots are made for your gun, then use them. Using a local PD for ammo suggestions is not a bad idea. Its a commonly quoted recommendation. |

Of course it's would be an interesting court case if you happened to shoot someone with a .50 Cal Raufoss Mk211 round. They're legal to own although expensive since they contain less than 1/4th an ounce of explosive.
