That was proven false on Mythbusters.

They managed to polish a couple of different kinds. I think lion poo was one of them. The secret is hikaru dorodango-dirt polishing.

Hmmm, seems like I'm the only guy here who DOESN'T have a web site. And has absolutely NO interest in getting one.
But then again, I'm old and cranky and arrogant and defensive and did I mention old?
Seriously folks, if you have to get ahold of me, phone or email. I MIGHT reply...then again, maybe not!
Ok, now I've got to go reload the Super Soaker. I'm giving myself a qual; in the shower. A good instructor is a clean instructor.

It took a bunch of effort on my part to finish reading Chris Bird's "The Concealed Handgun Manual". IIRC, it took me about a week to read. I'd much rather watch a 6-7 hour video Oh, noes! Putting actual effort into something this important? The horror! People have different learning styles; visual, auditory & kinesthetic learners. Most folks tend to have a 30/30/40 type of split between the 3. Some folks on the other hand are heavily biased towards a particular style. Absolutely. That's why good instructors use not only lecture but written materials, on-screen text, videos and hands-on demonstrations. This not only provides the variety to keep students interested and engaged through what can be a long day of class, but also ensures that at least some of the material is presented in each student's strongest learning style. That said, "I'll wait for the movie" sounds like the cop-out that it is. Quote: A video may not be a bad idea actually.
Maybe not, but they are expensive to produce.
On the other hand, a book on tape might be doable. Remember, though, that the average reader takes in 250-275 words per minute, and a comfortable listening speed is 150-160 wpm. That means that the Rosenberg book (85,000+ words) is a five-hour read, or a nine-hour audio book.

If by chance, that shot was meant for yours truly, I don't recollect saying I'd wait for a movie. But it's true that I'd prefer watching & listening vs just watching/reading.
Re movies: my wife enjoys reading the book THEN seeing the movie. I'll skip the book and just go to the movie.
Maybe the video idea isn't practical for PTC instruction, it was just an idea I threw out there. No cop-out was intended. Besides, it appears that "The Guy" likes the idea

Nine hours is nothing. That's one week of commutes.
I'm listening to a book that is over 30 hours long right now.

Nah, not very expensive. It's only a one-time deal. You don't have to video every class, just one. Most instructors follow the same format time-after-time don't they? Just pick out a class and have a friend with a video-cam record your class while the instructor is wearing a microphone. You can edit afterwards to remove unwanted segments.
Bonus: Instructors can view themselves giving the class........maybe they'll see something they can improve or change.
I've helped my brother-in-law video weddings. All you need is a cam-corder and a DVD burner. I'm sure you wouldn't have a problem selling the videos because, like Joel said: "Nobody can remember everything in a class, NOBODY". The only question is how to price the DVD.
I know I would have bought a DVD from my instructor if he had them.
Once again, the above is just my very humble opinion.

You're probably talking taping 2 or 3 classes in segments to make sure you get all the segments presented at their best. Then you'd have to be very careful not to tangent off or take topics as students asked them, and thus out of order for the dvd.

Dean, is it possible that there's another side of the coin? I came across this blog this morning. Take a look-see.

Everybody has an opinion, along with something else. And I'm not talking about a laser gun used in lieu of an "actual shooting exercise".
