At one time DPS personnel told CCRN representatives that Texas would not recognize Minnesota carry permits because we did not REQUIRE Sheriffs to conduct a NICS check as part of the background check. There may be other states that do the same.

In any case, as of August 1, 2009, a NICS check will be required in Minnesota for newly issued permits and a NICS check will be required as part of the annual anniversary check on outstanding permits. So, no later than August 1, 2010, ALL Minnesota carry permits will have been "cleared" through NICS.

See section 6 of Laws 2009, Chapter 139.

I suppose this does nothing to abrogate the need for a NICS check at point of purchase.

Well, at least it may give the Sheriff an excuse for taking so long to issue a permit if there is one more check that has to be run. Not that they need an excuse now

How did they update 624.714 without it being discussed here on TCCarry? Or did I miss the mention of this earlier this year?

Even with this change, kimberman, what would give you any reason to suspect Campion would fufill his duty and work with Texas?

I dunno. I think a show of good faith might be helpful come sentencing time. After all, an MPD guy just pled out for having tipped off one perp; Campion staged a press conference to tip off a whole task force.

Texas would be one state I would actually want a carry permit to be recognized in. I hope it gets done.

Do we have any idea on a timeline on this?

Traveling to Texas in August, was planning on getting my Florida, this would save some cost before then.

Id doesn't look like any action is happening yet... The stated NICS roadblock is gone (there may be others).

Governors need to be talking. Since the NICS standard doesn't even kick in until 1-Aug-09 I wouldn't count on it by your trip.
