Most of the time I carry "covered" as with a shirt, often just a t-shirt in the summer. So it's covered but prints pretty noticeably. Frankly, other than someone who knows what to look for, I doubt that anyone would make it as a firearm. Most people might see a vague outline, but with all the cell phones and other items people carry I am not concerned that someone would accost me. Of course it could happen.

I have an LCP and j frame that I can conceal quite well, but I usually carry the larger pieces.

Depending on your body type, manner of dress, and manner of concealment, if you carry something the size of a Glock or a 1911 it's probably going to show. Most people won't notice. People who themselves carry regularly or have done so in the past will notice. People who are unusually observant will notice. In most environments neither group will say anything to you about it although depending on the situation someone might come up and make small talk just to see whether or not you're a raving lunatic.

I have never been made myself but I have a friend who was open carrying and had a “man with a gun” call placed about him. Seems the Minneapolis police didn’t have much to do so two cruisers showed up. This was a while ago but as I recall not much happened after he produced his permit and license. I think they advised him that perhaps OC wasn’t the best choice but they didn’t tell him he couldn’t.

Although Minneapolis might not be the destination of choice for a lot of people, I've heard a lot of positive feedback about the beat cops. In fact they actually escorted me home, instead of to jail once when I was a complete idiot.

I was at the Minnesota Zoo with the family on Friday watching the bird show in their big outdoor amphitheater. I was CCing my Glock 40 in my Serpa 2 holster and as soon as the show was over I felt something tugging hard at my gun. Instinctively, I snapped my hand over the butt and pushed down (over my shirt, not inside.) The woman behind me just starts stammering and apologizing profusely.

Apparently what had happened is when she sat down behind me, she put her diaper bag between her feet and one of the straps fell next to me. When she picked it up, it somehow slid right between my pants and the holster. Needless to say, I discretely removed the offending strap from under the holster and reassured her that it wasn't a big deal. Props to Blackhawk on making a great holster. I can't imagine how you would ask people two rows in front of you to kindly hand back your holster and gun. . .

Did she see/realize what it was caught on?

Not sure. She seemed pretty flustered, so I am guessing she may have. My adrenaline was running pretty high, so details are a bit fuzzy. I'm lucky enough to be one of those guys that people tend to assume are military/LEO (i'm not - but I'm proud to have a lot of family that is), which probably prevented a more dramatic response. On the flip side, that same assumption made for an awkward situation one time while visiting the Air Force Academy in CO. . . it took a while to convince the guy that I wasn't a cadet and that I wasn't up to anything. Note to self: don't wander around military bases unsupervised. . .
