Hello, as I understand it if I have a MN PTC I can carry in any state that has reciprocity (just got to follow their laws).

I just talked to 2 separate people who gave me wrong info.

First person had his MN PTC and said that in order for you to carry in states that have reciprocity with MN you need to get that state's permit too. I told him I don't think he is right and I have never heard of that but I know that some like FL require you to have YOUR STATE PTC in order to obtain theirs. He said that his instructor hires a lawyer to come into the classes and that is what he was told. So he was really sure I was wrong.

2nd person said that his boss had one and he told him that you had to pay like an additional $100 in MN to be able to use the reciprocity.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I told them I would look into it.

I have a class tommorow. If you attend I will include reciprocity at no additional charge*. You must use the coupon code "tcc".

* Reciprocity shipping and handling not included.

:P :D

Go here: http://handgunlaw.us/

It will tell you where your MN permit is good.

(If you want you can give me that extra $100 to use reciprocity.)

Is there something I can print out that shows these guys they are wrong. Not that I want to prove them wrong, I just want them to have the right info so they can give others the right info.

That's precisely wrong -- in that situation, reciprocity is exactly why you don't have to get that state's permit at all.

Okay, I'd like to know the obvious: who was the instructor, and who was the lawyer?

You're not wrong; they are.

Thanks guys for the replies.

I figured I had the correct info, Joel I will let you know who the instructor is, I will ask him again on this next Wednesday. I don't think he knew who the lawyer was though.

I do believe that the omnipresent National Rifle Association requires that "legal issues" be discussed in their "self-defense" classes by a "lawyer or law enforcement officer." They only "certify" the instructor to talk about guns & gun safety.

Please correct me if I cam wrong.

Used to. Certified permit instructors meet the criteria, now.

Unless that has changed since May 13th, that is not correct...unless the presenting instructor is also an attorney. The PP classes that have an official legal component as part of the NRA curriculum require the attorney to do the legal presentation. I was at an NRA TC workshop on May 11-13, and Mark Richardson, NRA, clearly noted that it is a requirement of the NRA.

More likely the NRA guy got it wrong; they put it in writing, in an instructor newsletter, that a person certified by the state to teach deadly force may present chapter 3.

He is entirely wrong. I can show you absolutely current instructor materials for both PP classes. It clearly states right up front that you do NOT need to be an attorney.

Someone needs to contact either him or Fairfax, he's passing along old information.
