Yeah, I don't think that open carry at the fair would be a good idea -- but this sort of ignorant arrogance really pisses me off.

Plus the fact that I call BS on his claim of being an Carry Permit Instructor, based upon the simple fact that he REPEATEDLY refers to it as a concealed carry permit. Any instructor worth his/her salt, knows that's not what it is.

So you don't think he's an instructor, or you don't think he's an instructor worth his salt?

I used to feel strongly about "posting activism." But now, I just see the sign, smile knowing I'm carrying and there is nothing they can do about it - 'cause they don't know - and go about my business.

Of course, I prefer to avoid posted properties as much as possible, but sometimes it can't be helped.

Kimberman - and others - have pointed out, we have a "pretty good" posting requirement law. If we raise too much of a stink, we could wind up going against the business community, resulting in a stronger posting law. In other states, you can be arrested just for walking past the sign while carrying - and the sign can be any size, posted anywhere.

Here in Minnesota, we're much better off. I suggest we keep it that way, and work towards changes in the law which will do real good - such as interstate reciprocity and castle doctrine.

I'll second that opinion.

I'll go on to second Erik's opinion. Thanks for sharing it Erik :!:

Am I missing something here? Since when are police allowed to "remove" you off the property for carrying? IF they are can lawfully ban guns, they still must ask you to leave before taking further action, correct?

I'm with Kecker on this one. This guy seems way too ignorant of basic carry law to be an instructor.

I want to emphasize that the article was from 2003, before the first State Fair with the new carry permit laws. I figured it all would be worked out by now. For those who have gone recently, is it still posted? Has anyone been asked to leave?

(I'll still find this day a job for the PF-9 in a pocket holster, though.)

Sure, to all of that. I'm very much not in favor of open carry at the Fair -- too many obvious problems, including cops who haven't had a clue since 1969 but still have attitudes and POST licenses.

There are still some signs up; far as I know, no permit holders have been asked to leave.

I would strongly advise the State Fair folks not to push this; they don't need an Isolated Incident that they have to explain in front of the world.

So anyone gone this year?

Do they do a bag search?

I have IWB, but with shorts and shirt will probably print badly so would it be easier to toss in backpack until inside?

Yep, went on opening Thursday.

Not that I saw, not even close, they did nothing.

That should work just fine, from what I saw, they are not even looking. My carry was a Kahr PM9, pocket holster in right rear pocket of cargo style shorts. Not a problem, towards the end of our stay my wife brought up the carry issue and I had to point out that day's carry method. Her response as usual was that she thought so, but didn't see until I pointed it out to her, but please don't take that as an endorsement...

Any good carry method that does not scream gun should work, if your carry method is more conservative, I think there will be no problem.

I went today (Friday) thought I was made right away - an officer walking over to me as I decide at my trunk wether I want my jacket or not, and he's asking me and my friend if we're with Law Enforcement, if we have badges. We say no, and he says "that's Law Enforcement only parking" - was the only incident that day, and I had not 1 but 2 XD's with me. (Had to move our cars too. No wonder those randomly open spots right inside were available. *sigh*)

Even stopped to help the FIRST Robotics teams get their networking stuff squared away over in the Education Building, neither one had their wireless devices configured. (10AM and 2PM are their competition times, it's fun to go watch, especially for any kids!) Sadly the 'Tech Building' has been renamed the 'Eco Building' and contains less cool techy stuff. :-( (I still want to buy that PC IBM showed off probably close to 8+ years ago, was like a Pentium III 800MHz that you'd wear on your hip, and have a pair of glasses for a display...that was cool...where's MY wearable PC?)

Then I gave in to The Dark Side™, for they had cookies. (The Dark Side™ being the Martha's Cookies Stand) Ooooh man when they're so hot they're still falling apart...and you end up with a gooey chocolate-y hand...mmmmm. Wash it down with milk...mmmm...

I knew there was a reason for those "Carry Permit" badges. Better parking!

I went saturday with my G26 in my pocket. Parked and entered through the north entrance. Didn't see any signs and didn't have any problems...

Did anyone see signs at the other entrances?

Just got back today (Sunday, Aug 30th) from the fair. Entered off of Snelling onto Dan Patch Avenue. That's the main entrance. No signs anywhere that I could see. Not on the ticket booths and not on the entrances behind them. No one was checking bags either. I was carrying concealed and had a wonderful time, though the crowds were more dense then ever!
