I have to say I'm not really in favor of the idea.

Cargo compartments on trains are far less secure than on planes. Trains stop in more places per trip, their cargo compartments are opened more often, and in much less secure areas.

I think it'd be safer to simply allow individuals to keep their firearms on their persons, while they traveled by train.

I'm in complete agreement......sadly before it'll ever to come fruition we'll have to listen to the "THERE'LL BE GUNFIGHTS IN THE DINING CAR" ballyhoo.

yep and it will be just as true as those that said the MPPA would lead to gunfights in the streets.

Exactly. And easy to do: just declare trains to be national parks. :)

I'm reminded of a quote. "You can't fight here, this is the war room!"

I'd counter with: "No, if they're going to have a gunfight...the only place to have it is on the roof, across several cars, while dodging low-hanging power lines, bridges, and other obstacles. Anything less isn't manly. :lol:
