So our Church also has a School.
The Sanctuary is also used as the gymnasium for the School.

From my understanding of Subd. 1d. I need to get a permission slip from the principal if I want to carry to church.

I guess the question is, has there been any cases to decide if something is a church building or a school building when dual use.

To be clear, this is not a church meeting at a school, but a Church and School built together that uses one facility for both. Building is Called X Church and School. The Church use is not Temporary as the sounds system, cross and projection are permanent to the facility and are only used for Church Services. However the basketball hoops on the sides are also permanent and used by the school.

Wow. What a sticky one!

There have been no cases addressing this issue that I'm aware of.

While I suspect that a judge should find that it's not a school on Sunday mornings, I have little confidence that one would.

Sigh. Try to get the permission slip.

I think it's preposterously risky to assume that any actual ambiguities in the law will redound to your benefit; seems to me that getting the written permission is just this side of necessary, if you're going to carry there.

Just thinking on this topic, if the principal seems to loathe giving you permission, could he perhaps give you written permission, but only A) during certain times or B) when certain conditions are met? (The church event(s) are/is running, and school is not 'in session') - just make sure it will cover anytime you'd be there, if you're ever there for more than the Sunday services.

or if you think the church powers that be would be more receptable than the principal, maybe approach them to ask the principal on your behalf...

rthib, I appoint you the poster child for demonstrating how even well-written laws can still come up short.

Yep, This fail the "Law abiding person doing rational behavior and it is still illegal test."

As a side note, here is what the Synod has to say about gun control:
Q: What does the Bible say about gun control?
A: Nothing. It talks often about weapons being used to oppose evil. It condemns harming other people unjustly. It does not deal with the issue of whether restricting ownership of weapons will prevent evil conduct.

Jesus said in Luke chapter 22 verse 36 ( if you don't have a sword go sell your coat and buy a sword). There are other scriptures indicating you should defend your house.

Here is an excellent article about being a Christian and carrying, with some existential scripture.
