Even I, in sunny Arizona, received two pleas for cash in the mail today, one from the Minn GOP and one from Pawlenty for Governor.

Both were marked appropriately and mailed back (on their dime, of course). 8)

Governor Pawlenty hints at a third term

Could governor pawlenty become the longest serving governor in Minnesota history? He's giving the strongest signals so far that he will run for a third term.

Governor Pawlenty delivered his "State of the State" address this month amidst the most difficult economic times since the depression. For the second time in five years he faces a historically huge state budget deficit.

But he told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Chief Political Reporter Tom Hauser he's leaning toward running for a third term.

"We're in challenging times. I think I have a lot energy and a lot of ideas for this position. I'm interested in continuing in this position," said Pawlenty.

The governor stops short of saying he's made a decision. However, his campaign committee announced this week they raised $750,000 in 2008. He's buoyed by a SurveyUSA poll this week that puts his approval rating at 53% in a horrible political environment for most Republicans.

"I enjoy it and we're doing everything to get ready to prepare to run for 2010, but I haven't made a final decision on that," said Pawlenty.

His fate might be determined by how he comes out of a bruising budget battle. He's already facing a barrage of criticism over proposed cuts to health and human services.

Governor Pawlenty will likely need a successful budget fight if he decides to become the first governor to run for and win three four-year terms in office.

So after sending in my donation with "Not one cent until you fix the reciprocity MCPPA" on it a month or two back, i got another today. This time was my "Republican party of minnesota 2009 card activation reply"

It states "Thanks, Ron!, I'll carry my card proudly and activate it with my contribution to the Republican Party of Minnesota of: [ ]$25 [ ] $35 [ ] $50 [ ] $100 [ ] other" It also has a credit card sized "membership card"

I am thinking about sending the whole thing back with the same statement on it.

Do it. I did. And I will, as long as they keep sending post-paid envelopes.

So I just got of the phone with a lovely young lady from www.americansolutions.com who wanted me to donate money to help Newt G. apply pressure to the prez. to quit wasting our tax money. So for the second time in two weeks I got to tell someone from a national campaign that I will not donate until Gov. Pawlenty keeps his promise.

She tried several times 'understanding' that I am 'frustrated' but that my help was desperately needed, and she didn't even know who Gov. Pawlenty was. I pointed out that he was the subject of a recent WSJ article, and suggested that Newt probably knew him (and when I googled the two of them I found out he most certainly does).

So she eventually gave up, but not before I had said 'Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty' and 'broken campaign promise to gun owners' at least five times.

Petty of me, but every little pin-prick of revenge is sweet.

It is actually better than that: Business Reply envelopes are charged $0.70 or $0.80 on top of postage, so they are paying significantly for the privilege.
