Making a trip to the Twin Cities tomorrow and haven't been to any good gun shops...I've only been to franchise outdoor stores. I really want to find a nice shop to pick out a 1911 for everday carry. I will be in Bloomington but I don't mind going for a nice drive if it will be worth my time...any suggestions?

Gunstop in Minnetonka. Ph# is 952-474-4570. Address is:
14704 Excelsior Blvd
Minnetonka, MN 55435
(had it available in case 'cuz I went there today for my GPS)
They had quite a bit of .40 in stock today, no primers in stock for those that reload. And they were quite busy....

I like both of those -- and would have mentioned them, if others hadn't, as I like both the shops and the folks who run them.
I'll add J&S Custom in Lakeville, as while I'm not on as friendly terms with them (no hostility, honest; but it's a place I go to buy something maybe, not hang out and chat and buy something), they've typically got a lot of nice 1911 clones there.
And while I'm not a fan, Bill's does tend to have a large selection, at large prices.

Thanks - I really appreciate the suggestions. I'll probably check out the Frontiersman and Gun Stop. I always prefer to spend my money at smaller shops, much easier to develop a mutually beneficial relationship!($$)

Metro Gun & Pawn on Lyndale just N of 494 has some stuff, not a lot, and not exceptional prices, but a decent selection of used shotguns and rifles.
Streichers on Hwy 55 about 1mi W of 169 has a lot of LE stuff besides guns.
Joe's Sporting Goods on Cty B just E of Rice St has a decent selection, and occasionally some good used stuff (you have to get lucky, though).
Sorry, saw this post is old, but the info is still good :D
