After a month I doubt there will little interest in the patrols until the next crime.

My biggest problem is that at best it's probably a temporary solution. Right now they have alot of support; everyone wants to be out there giving a helping hand. In a month less people will be signing up for patrols...in six they won't be able to support one patrol a night, for the whole neighborhood. Then the criminals will migrate right back in.

I would like to be wrong, but I suspect I won't be.

People forget, and they find things that will constrain their schedules, the only way your going to stick with a long term deterrent strategy, is if it already fits into your day to day routine and a couple hours wandering around rarely does.
