I don't know if anyone visits the Citizens For A Safer Minnesota site, but I found this video and it's actually hilarious:

(I had to upload to another site, the address wouldn't take on this forum)

That's funny as heck Rat!
Looks like all of us shopping in Uptown and "Heather" pops open the bottle.
Did you notice she didn't even flinch at all of the hardware?
I guess she's pretty negatively influenced by the MPPA, so she better let everyone know how dangerous the law really is....

The .za domain is South Africa, if I remember right.
A colleague of my wife's is from South Africa, and it sounds like the crime situation there is pretty much nuts. The apartheid-era police force wasn't much good at anything besides enforcing apartheid (and various weird apartheid-era morals laws), and once it got into the hands of the ANC-led government, apparently is even worse. Most people who can afford it live in gated communities.
Ironically, they've also adopted some gun control measures which make it pretty much impossible to buy guns. There was a story about it in the Times in the past year. Guns apparently aren't banned, but it's one of those deals where if they don't process the paperwork, it's effectively a ban.

I have a brother in law who came here on a student visa from South Africa in the early 90's. There was no doubt to him that this is a better place to live. He got his American citizenship about five years ago, and now both his brother and sister have moved here, all in the medical profession. They say that crime was bad before, and is out of control now. They have "safe rooms" in their homes with iron bars, in the center of the house. Everyone has large dogs. When their parents come to visit, they bring along some of the latest newspapers, and most of the articles I've seen are reporting crimes. They also say that the SA government is controlling the number of visas issued, as the number of requests is skyrocketing.
