I was reading a review of the Springfield XD-45 in one of the gun rags last night, and I have a question. There was a mention of a cocking status indicator in the top rear (where a hammer usually is). Is this also a decocker, or do you have to pull the trigger to release the spring, like you do for the Glock? Seems like a decocker would be a waste of time, as you would have to rack the slide again, but you never know what they put on stuff these days. My experience with this style of pistol is only with the Glock. I'd like to check this pistol out, though, looks like a nice package (13+1 of .45).

It is not a decocker. It's just like a pin with red painted on it that sticks out a hole in the back.

This picture doesn't have any red on the indicator.

Thanks, that's a much better pic than the magazine had.

Ohhh, and the XD-45 4" shoots sooo nicely! I tried one at Bills on Friday evening. If you get a chance stop down there this weekend and try it out.

The cocking indicator (actually an extension of the firing pin striker) is not painted red on the XD. Here's a picture of the XD:

I bought an XD45 on Friday. My second XD. Gander has the XD45 for $569. At Bill's Shooter's show: $509 plus a $45 range pass and an extra mag and an XD hat. Take that big box!!!

The cocking indicator was red on the one the Rep had.

Apparently not a very permanent red...

It's normally just silver. The rep may have painted it red so it's easier to see.

My daughter talked me into buying one, (that's right my daughter) in 45ACP. All I can say is I'm sure glad I listened to her. :D
You will have to shoot one to see what all the hype is about.

I picked up an XD at Bills show. It was the first time I've ever touched one. I say picked up, and not shot, because the grip had such god awful ergonomics that I put it down instantly, and lost all interest in taking it for a spin. I found its grip to be as comfortable as a brick. Apparently this is yet another of the countless areas where I don't agree with the public in general, for it sounds like you guys really like yours. Or does the grip bother you too, but you like the gun for other reasons?

The CZ PO-1 on the other hand had such a sweet grip, and pointed so naturally for me (ya, I took that one for a spin) that I may be picking one of those up in the future.

Agreeing with the majority on grip shape is kind of silly since there is no universal standard hand shape and size.

I had my new XD45ACP out at the range last Sunday and it is indeed a really nice handgun to shoot...I have a big hand and the grip felt really good and it points great unlike my glock..The grip felt much better than my son-in-laws G21............
