Heh, it sounds like the contractors are running into BATF obstacles obtaining ordinance.

Not Really

All that is required is to send them to Iraq using the ATF Transfer forms and a Government PO.

It has been done before - no problem on GI paper.

Mark has a 'contractor' that comes in to his shop and he makes it sound like they are running into some road blocks.

The New Yorker had an article on a security contractor working in Iraq -- all ex-Special Forces guys -- and they mentioned that they could not get weapons to Iraq, at least not in any timely fashion due to whatever red tape was associated with exporting them. They ended up having to pick out AKs from captured Iraqi stockpiles once they got in country.

This has probably gotten more flexible by now (either through experience, connections or whatever), but the article did make it sound like some changes would make it a lot simpler.

Yup and had they called us and were able to get GI Paper - we could affect a trnasfer forthwith.

There are ways around things that are legal if you are smart enought to figure that out.

There is also this little thing called the ITAR Agreement (INternational Trade in Arms Regulations) that get a little sticky.
