so the other day at work the subject of reloading came up. i was told by 2 guys i work with that reloading handgun ammunition in minnesota is a felony crime. i told them they were very misinformed. both of them said that they have been told several times at twin cities area ranges and gun shops that its a crime to reload hangun ammunition. one even said that he asked about it when he was putting in for his carry permit and he was told the same thing, that it was a felony.

this kind of misinformation irritates me. also the question arises why would they be getting these kinds of answers?

not sure about their instructors as i didnt ask. the one guy said he was told that while actually applying for his permit. said it was washington county. im curious who in the washington county sherrifs department gave out that misinformation.

i didnt ask what gun ranges or stores, but im sure they sold ammunition. i was just to shocked by the stupid factor that anyone would tell people its a felony to reload handgun ammunition.

Probably the same officer in Mpls who arrested the guy for "illegal hollowpoint bullets".

it was news to the rest of the dept and the citizen's lawyer too since no law to that effect exists in MN.

i know they ar not illegal i was just referring to not hearing about that yet.

of course as we all know hollowpoint ammo is excessively evil and it will come after you even without being in a firearm, if you so much as look at it funny.

I think that you caught them in a story and they made up the being told at a gun range and gun shop to try and add credibility to their BS story. As far as being told this by the clerk handling their permit application, that part is perfectly believable. Still today I am being told by students that the clerk taking their permit application or LEO's are telling them that they cannot use their Minnesota permit to carry to purchase a firearm from a dealer.

I'd have called B.S. on that the second he said it. Why would the Sheriff even mention anything about reloading ammunition when he was applying for a permit? Especially if the Sheriff had no way of knowing whether the person applying reloaded or not.

It would be illegal to sell reloaded ammo without the proper license.

I think that jmw's friend actually brought up the issue when applying, based on what I read.
