if there are any folks out there that have a rifle chambered in this FINE caliber

You had better call Cabelas customer service and order brass for it - it has been discontinued by Winchester and is a seasonal run only. There is NONE available on the commercial market at this time other than from Cabelas.

I placed an order for 500 pcs Tuesday for a large run of 284 Winchester for some buddies that plan to hunt with their Model 88's this year...

Reload it yourself - or forget it. There is NO commercial ammunition for this caliber any longer.

Crying Shame - 284 is a great caliber - plenty of power for any north american game animal.....Flat shooter too.

That seems to be available...

The problem is finding a tapered expander to open those up to 284 without wrecking those lapua cases...

Cheaper to buy the Winchester real deal brass if one can get it.

Sorry for the confusion....I current load and shoot 6.5-284.......not that I wanted to convert or load and shoot straight 284.

I would definately be interested in picking up some of that Win brass to neck down for play time, as Lapua is getting difficult to obtain and costly.......

Thanks for the informaiton....and glad to see someone else re-loading...I might be interested in joining in your next "lesson".........

Did you check with John at the Gunstop for 284 brass and 6.5x284 brass?

John has 284's in stock this week. But I suspect that this will not be a forever situation.

There is a whole case of 284 at the GS. And, several of John's suppliers list it, and even if it is seasonal as are other cartridges there will sources just not a price some people will want to pay. Sinclair makes mandrels to expand the case neck of say 6.5 x 284 brass if it need be. The sky is not falling in. People neck up good brass to do all kinds of things. I know one guy that necks up 243 lapua to get 260 brass.

No the sky is not falling - never said that it was - 284 happens to be a popular base case for a lot of stuff and the brass is getting very hit or miss...

I would rather not pay the 6.5x284 price if it could be avoided. Shooting costs enough without going out of your way to make it so.

As for neckingup spendy 243 brass to make 260's - to each his own.

Just neck some .308 down to .260 or buy some .260.

Hmm... maybe he has a Lapua fetish. I don't see that Lapua makes .260 rem brass.

He must have been nuts - .243 Lapua brass costs 58¢ each and .308 is only 49¢.
