I just ran into an issue that I'm curious if anyone has run into. I have been reloading for years on my RCBS BIGMAX. I decided to start reloading 9mm,so I've got my sizing die set up when I drop a case into the three point chuck and discover that it just wiggles around in the holder and is not clamped at all. My question is does any know if you are suppose to use a shell holder or some other type of attachment for the smaller rounds?

Good morning, what took you so long? I was going to address that question but I wasn't sure you checked every day. I don't think I'll be getting rid of it any time soon but that issue did dissapoint me a little. I'm actually not sure I'll ever recoupe the cost of the dies for 9mm but I just like reloading my own stuff so I bought them never giving any thought to the smaller base.I'm certain I can machine a shell holder base to grip in the three point chuck and just do it like all the other machines.

I think that there is an adapter for standard shell holders.

This is a clip from the Big Max Instruction Booklet:
Cartridges that fit RCBS Shell Holders #5, #8, #13, #14, #22, #24, #29, and
#31 are not suitable for use in the Automatic Shell Holder. Notable cartridges
within that group are:
.25 ACP (.25 Auto)
.45 Auto Rim
7.62 mm Russian
.348 Winchester
.405 Winchester
.43 Mauser
.45.70 U.S. Government
.460 Weatherby Magnum
.50.70 U.S. Government

I think the 9mm uses the RCBS Shellholder # 16, so I'm not sure why the automatic shell holder doesn't work. I'm not that familiar with that press. Maybe you could get a shellholder adapter from RCBS? That would allow you to use the standard shell holders.

WOW!
I just got off the phone with RCBS and they confirmed I needed an adapter for that cartridge. They are sending one out free of charge.
Does anyone have a need for a large cardboard box that I had packaged the press up and was shipping it to Pinnacle.
Damn the bad luck Pinnacle!
Thanks for all the help folks.

Well my adapter arrived today and I just finished reloading 100 rounds of 9mm. The adapter replaces the entire three jaw mechanism and then you just use the correct shell holder for the caliber you are reloading.
On a side note,I decided to go with power pistol for my powder as I had a full bottle. Even cutting their recommended charge it works out to 5.9 grains of powder for 124 grain bullets. There sure won't be any chance of a double charge with this load.
