What is the law regarding wearing body armor while hunting?

I talked with some people of party at a trailhead and we exchanged info on where they would be and where we would be as not to cross areas. About 8 am, I here a shot that sounds like it is towards me so I tuck behind a large tree. Two more shots ring out in quick succession and the last shot zips past me about 50 ft away through the woods, I can hear go into the thickets. WTF!

I had planned on going over there when everything settled down and asking what's up?!? Before I can do that and I calm down, my friend shots and drops a buck and ways me over. So I head over there rather than get confrontational.

We drag the buck out and I run into some members of the other group at the trail head. I asked about who fired the three shots and the fact that last shot went zinging past me. It turns out some people showed up later and dropped them short and did not tell them about us.

Still, the guy gets buck fever, shots across the trail and upwards into the woods without thinking of what's behind the deer...nice...amateur hack.

My friend did get a nice solid 8 pointer. Will I go into the woods again...yes but maybe in a different area.

That would have been completely useless where we were. The drag we made was to get to the trail so we could pull him out with the 4-wheeler and a sled.

We had to go over stumps and logs and branches and brambles and puddles and... bleh.

OK, guess you needed to play safari and rig a pole! problem with that is finding native bearers to carry it... there just aren't many of them around when it's 28F and blowing like heck!!!

My brother in Georgia shot a 55# doe the other day. I took the picture he sent, photoshopped a collar onto it and sent it back. Heck, my lab pup runs 56#!



To be fair, the deer run small down there and it was his 4th deer in 4 days. His first was a 178# 4x4 buck.

nice thing about where we hunt, we can drive the truck to within about 25 yards of wherever we shoot a deer

I'm new to this forum but really enjoy the discussions. I went hunting this past weekend and got a doe. Nothing spectacular just a 140lb or so doe but it was my first deer so that was cool.

I've hunted the past 2 years with nothing to bring home (except sore muscles from walking,etc.). It was on public land but there weren't too many others there. Past years there was more but the weather was a bit brisk this time. Can't say I'm great at field dressing though. Took me 1 hr 40 mins to do it. My wife went with and she enjoyed helping gut it! Yea, way cool wife!

I'd love to buy some hunting land up north but everything costs too much these days.

Don't worry, the more you do it, the easier it gets. I have only gutted maybe 6 or 7 deer in my time (im only 21, and used to make my dad do it when i was younger) and its already down to about 15 minutes. The only thing that catches me up is breaking the pelvis bone.

It's not illegal, but you're talking serious, heavy plate armor (not the soft armor that cops wear) before you are even partially protected from rifle rounds.

Pretty sure they dont sell it to civilians, but you could buy Dragonskin. The guy on future weapons shot it with a .223 and a 7.62x39 and neither went through. Look it up on youtube.

Yup. Only $2000 or so, and still not full wraparound protection. But it is heavy. Too bad the company is in serious trouble.

My partners and I figure that our body armor would just slow the bullet down and make it tumble more...

Hunted in Cannon Falls, 30 min south of Saint Paul. The corn was still up on our farm. All deer were taken within 30 minutes of each other around 7am Saturday. Saturday morning was warm and kinda windy. After these were taken I only saw one buck, Sunday morning. This is the first time we have hung them right-side up... it made gutting easier at least.

4-point buck, decent body size. He was in a herd of 6 that walked up to my stand. Nailed him at 60 yards between two trees.
The doe behind it is med-small that was in the herd and ran to my dad's stand.

Big doe. It might have been shot by my cousin, or it might have been the doe I shot in the herd of 6. Both ran and left very little blood trail. We eventually found this one.

SoB with the 4-pointer, not sure why the deers head looks so small, I think it was spun away from the camera.

Entrance wound on the 4-pointer. The hole was well pronounced all the way into the chest cavity. Exit wound was a bloody mess about 2.3 inches wide, the picture didn't turn out. The shot went in the front shoulder and out between the 2nd and 3rd last ribs.

I just got back today, tagged a doe on Saturday with a bonus permit. Never did see a decent buck so I brought my venison home and I'll probably call it a season.

We have our own land and lots of deer. My youngest grandson shot a very large doe on Sunday. It was his first deer and he was pretty excited.

There wasn't a lot of shooting going on and just going by the success the neighbors were not having, I think the harvest may be down this year. Our area (178) is an intensive area with 5 deer allowed. Before the season, deer were everywhere, but they went into hiding when the shooting started. The windy weather on Saturday didn't help either.

Jeez 3 inch with expander and all that whatnot. It has never taken me more then 1 2 and 3/4 inch slug to kill a deer. They are like $5 a box at walmart.
