Dear MDHA Members:
Attached are links to the language for two Senate Files (bills) that have recently filtered to the top of the legislative ooze. These bills are each fairly subtle but essentially place much greater restrictions upon use of atvs on state forest lands. They appear to remove and/or severely limit the potential of utilizing atvs on state forest lands state-wide for big game retrieval, hunting purposes, trapping and just about anything else.
While MDHA agrees that atv use does need regulations and restrictions, MDHA does not condone the use of atvs to extend to anywhere people want to drive them. These bills appear to go to the extreme by expelling atv use of any kind from an extremely large portion of Minnesota's state forest lands. In our current conversations with DNR, and in the atv public input meeting, and atv related meetings of cooperative agencies, counties, and stakeholders, people from across the state are starting to agree upon common ground, commonly agreed upon limitations and allowances regarding atv use. This bill bypasses all of that fine work and pushes the views of a few down the throats of everyone.
MDHA will actively oppose these bills and requests that you also consider calling your local legislators advising them to actively work to defeat Senate Files 1269 and Senate File 1270. We advise that when you call make sure you give your name, city and phone number. Then, follow that call up with another call about 2 days later reiterating the information and position you relayed earlier. A third call never hurts either.
To find out the contact information for your legislators, simply click on the following link to the State Website. It is easy to use and very quick. Legislator Contact information link - < http://www.leg.state.mn.us/leg/Districtfinder.asp >
Thank you for your attention and be sure to watch for more MDHA legislative updates over the next several weeks. MDHA represents the views of our chapters and members. If your view is different from the view MDHA is taking, we encourage you to voice your opinion to your local MDHA chapter and to your legislators. Your voice is important! Make it heard.

Whitetails forever,

Executive Director, MDHA
