That could be the point. Watching a grown man break down in public might just be a very effective way to drive the point home.

Grown man physically anyway. The level of maturity and responsibility he showed, assuming all the stories are true, were about that of the kids he'll be talking to. No, likely less.

Klaseus, who was apparently drunk and high, was trespassing and <s>hunting</s> <u>poaching</u> turkeys April 19 when he <s>mistook the boy for a turkey</s> <u>fired toward a sound</u> and shot his son in the chest.

This man is many things, but he is not a hunter.

BRB sent me this in an e-mail. With his permission, I'm posting it here. Any bets on when it appears in the paper?

Dear Sirs/Ms,

Re this morning's front-page headline, "Dad gets 30 days in hunting
death." I'm terribly sorry that young Hunter Klaseus is dead, but
let's review the established facts. He was shot and killed by his
father, Anthony Klaseus, who was a.) trying to shoot turkeys without a
license, b.) trespassing, c.) drinking alcohol, and d.) smoking pot.
In other words, Anthony Klaseus was not "hunting," he was _poaching_,
in violation of numerous state laws, and had he shot a turkey instead
of his son and been caught doing so by a Minnesota Conservation
Officer, he probably would have received a stiffer sentence.

So please, stop referring to this tragic case as a "hunting accident."
The man who pulled that trigger was not a hunter; he was a poacher,
and a disgrace to honest and ethical hunters everywhere.

Thank you,

Amen.

And to your bet, my guess would be that it falls on shocked eyes at the paper. Everyone seems to be so heart broken over the death of the boy that they are overlooking the rest of the problem.

Community service? No way in hell or high water would I allow my son to be "taught a lesson" by this Klasues guy. In fact if he was on the schedule for a Hunter's Ed class that I was planning to attend I'd be awfully upset.

Really? I'd be SURE to attend and make sure the WHOLE message got out, not just the sanitized version. If he tried to spin it, I'd be on the FACTS pronto.

Heh, well yeah there is that angle too. I guess looking at it that way it would be ok to learn from him. If I had a kid needing to know right and wrong with hunting, I'd want to make sure Klaseus went into fine detail about every single thing he did wrong too.

With the sentence he got, that is the least he can do.

I was just imagining a big pity party type of presentation where he conveniently avoids the real cause of the tragedy. That is my skeptical side coming out first as usual I guess.

Yes.

So is this getting sent to news organizations *right now*?

I sent this one to the Pioneer Press this morning. Let's see if they print it.
