Or is my count off? Image

ETA: it's 36. Best you can do, without getting Iowa, which is kind of tricky.

Am I right in assuming this is with the MN, UT, and PA permits?

NH also requires you to be a resident of the state you're permitted in, and does not honor MN.

I count 14 red states on your map. 50-14=36.

Yup. And that, of course, was the right way to go. Unless, natch, I used Obama math, and subtracing 14 from 57 would have left me 43.

Nope; no Utah required, and Utah wouldn't give you CT or ME, among others. This is the full-tilt-boogie deal of MN, PA (optional, but recommended), FL, CT, ME and WA.

Most people, these days, are probably best off with the Big Three: MN, PA, and FL. But if you want CT or ME you've got to get their permits, and WA can be done (and has been done) on one's first trip out there.

OK. I didn't think UT got you ME, unless they'd changed the rules in the last few years. IIRC, ME's an easy one to get, as is PA.

Joel,

I don't believe that New Hampshire recognizes a PA permit unless the permit holder resides in PA. That would subtract one from your count.

Yup, it would -- if the person didn't have NH.

This isn't the map for the Big Three -- MN, PA, and FL -- that I recommend, but the full-tilt-boogie max: MN, PA, FL, CT, ME, WA, NH. (Note that, with all of those (even minus PA), getting UT gets you zilch. Which, given the new Utah regs, is fortunate.)

OUCH. 36 states at what cost?
MN 100, FL 117, PA 26, CT 35, ME 60, WA 55.25, NH $100 = $493.25 + class
Generally, it's a MN + either FL or UT thing unless people are collecting and then add individual states to fill in holes.
so, it's $217 for the majority.
PA primarily gets MN residents ND without the ND permit hassle. +$26
CT: +$35
ME: + $60
WA: + $55.25 and apply in person

.

Thanks. I saw that and it's July 2009 add about no longer accepting UT and FL
but thought I read somewhere that there could be more changes on the way.

Messed with me when they dropped FL. Now need to find out which of the
ones they do accept is going to work.

Ouch - read the list and none of them do non-resident license so NV is out for sure :bang: :bang: :bang:
