This is true. Actually -- and contrary to popular belief -- the Talmud simply cautions against eating pork in certain restaurants.

Can the order be cut per customer request or do we just get the carcass and have it cut up at our local meat locker?

You get to request the cuts. Or did, last year.

With all the rain lately, they are gleefully frolicking in half our garden. They are running about 220# so they should be ready for a ride in about a month or so. I'm targeting about 280 pounds.

My daughters 'fair' pig won Grand Champion and she won Grand Champion show person. 'Krusty' went to the butcher shop today - tipping the scales at about 300 pounds. She was BIG! and really long. Due to our BWCA trip, she was able to chow for an extra week.

You don't by chance have a ballpark figure of what it's gonna cost me for a pig do you? I wanna make sure that I have enough set aside when the time comes.

I'd be interested in this too.. I have a 7 cf freezer... How much space would a quarter take up? How many pounds? Thanks! [/Mouth Watering]

Last year a half hog ran about 100 - 110 of cut and wrapped meat. So around $275 or so.

Generally a quarter will fit in the freezer portion of a standard fridge/freezer combo (as long as there is little else in there.)

Would you like me to put you down for a quarter?

So around $275 or so. <Edited to add> Plus some processing costs for smoking and sausage which are listed in the cutting or that I'm sending out to everyone that has expressed interest. Generally for a half hog you are looking at smoked hams and bacon cost around $30 or so, then what ever you want for sausages.

Generally a quarter will fit in the freezer portion of a standard fridge/freezer combo (as long as there is little else in there.)

I'll be picking these guys up on Sat. I'm not sure if I'll be able to deliver any on Sat. though as I have to work at my part-time (sanity) job. I'll email all who ordered with the final cost after I weigh the boxes on Sat. So start cleaning out the Freezers! Porky is on the way!
