My son's 4H steer is ready for market. :D :D :D

I thought I would let all of you know to see if you were interested in a quarter, half, or whole farm raised beef.

The steer weighs 1500 lbs and live weight price is $0.90 per pound. You would be paying my son for your portion of the live animal and be responsible for paying the butcher for the processing. You will be able to call the butcher and have the cuts and packages done the way you like!

A half of beef will be $675.00, plus about $200 for processing. A quarter beef will depend on which quarter you wanted and how it weighs up.

Let your friends know. I would like to see someone put this beef in their freezer rather than to send him to market and have some stranger enjoy some tasty meals.

I have made arrangements with the Braham, MN locker plant for taking him in on August 14. PM if you are interested in a quarter/half/whole beef.

Thanks,
Tex

If I recall my animal science classes anywhere close, I would say you could plan on about 600-650 pounds of meat if the steer is pretty typical. Depends on body make up, fat/muscle ratio and things, but thats based on average yield numbers.

so a half works out to $875 (est) / 300 pounds finished meat = $2.92 a pound.

The other 4H steers that we had done have been hanging 60 - 62% of live weight. 1500 lbs x 60% = 900 lbs hanging. So you are pretty close on having 300 lbs finished meat in the freezer.

Hope that helps.

btw the steer was ultrasounded at the fair and is choice grade. marbled well without a lot of extra fat.
