Will this version/implementation of phpBB support RSS or Atom?

It'd be nice to be able to follow my posts or threads of interest in my reader.

RSS, for sure -- the difficulty, though, is that RSS doesn't have username/password stuff (at least, no readers that I know do; I don't have enough geek points to say for sure that the protocol doesn't support it, but I do think that's the case), so you can only read the public areas through RSS.

I think you're right; the "secure" areas of the site would be omitted but what about the "public" areas of the site?

I don't have to be logged in to read the General Gun Discussion area.

It's just a thought. A "nice to have" if you will.

I read so many blogs and web sites that I rely almost entirely on RSS or Atom to stay on top of it all.

They show up just fine. When I first joined the forum, I read it a lot though google reader. But then I was given access to some of the non-public forums...

I've seen the Google reader feed. How is it you use that to follow your specific threads, or any specific thread for that matter?

I don't see the strategery forum in their feed, either.

You don't really. You just read the posts as in the sequence they are posted and have to rely upon your brain to thread them together. I imagine some feed readers could someone present the RSS posts in a threaded manner, but I don't know much about any other feed readers.

Exactly. You'd need for the TCC forum to support private/personal RSS/Atom feeds where the reader supplied the TCC id and password. Then you'd need a reader that knew how to log into a private/personal feed, which Google's reader doesn't as far as I know.

Thank you! I'd forgotten about that. Thanks also to Andrew for the options.

I am such an ignoramus when it comes to a lot of this stuff.

This is interesting, and most likely useful, but...

I think I need someone to explain how subscribing to feeds will be useful; or in the alternative, "what's in it for me?"

For me, it's convenience and work filters. I already have a gmail account and Gmail Reader set up. Basically, a News reader is a link aggregator. It goes out and collects the data at any "feed" link you "subscribe" to and they're all in one place for your convenience.

It's not perfect, but it works and is more convenient than blocked content in some cases.

For me, the feed reader is NOT blocked, so as long as I don't click through, I can read the information without a "hit" on a blocked site ending up on my record.

go to reader.google.com and try the link: http://twincitiescarry.com/forum/rss.php?c=100 in the subscribe field.

The other nice thing with Gmail / Google Reader is Friends' feeds. I follow Someone1980 and Glock+Ipod with news and links they choose to share. There's quite a bit of overlap but it's a neat way to stumble upon a good writer and interesting to see the notes included.

I understand. Thanks for the explanation.

Unfortunately, I already waste too much of my time reading stuff on the net now....
