The police chief was nice enough to sign off on my paperwork for it

Is this a requirement?

For special stuff, like a short barrel, but not for the "average" AR. Short Barrel Rifles also require a federal tax stamp. There is a write-up here on how to obtain a SBR, some ways do not require a police sign-off.

I really hate this reference to EBR or assault weapon. I read something on another forum I like much better for public consumption.

AVERT: Anti-Violence-Emergency-Rescue-Tool

If we keep calling them evil...so will the politicians and others who have the power to do us harm with the stroke of a pen.

Hairy

Somebody on another local forum proposed we call them Sport Utility Rifles.

I think Kel-tec may have coined the phrase in some marketing materials, but I like it.

My Norinco Mak-90 was called a "Sporter" in the manual, and DPMS named their entry-level AR the "Sportical".

Thanks S.o.B, for clarifying that.
I wasn't too worried about it as my Police Chief is Tony Cornish. :D

Interesting thought presented earlier. What kind of name of our own should these tools have that we could present use ourselves? Or, do you think that's a not so good idea that we should avoid?

HammAR on MGT called it a Sport Utility Rifle IIRC

Unlike the harmless 12-gauge shotgun, you need a pistol permit to purchase (or permit to carry) to buy an eeeevil baby-killing "semiautomaticmilitary-style assault weapon."

Other than that, no difference.

See 624.7131 and 624.7132.

Oh, and I see Macphisto beat me by a minute. Nice to see someone named "Mac" win something.

I could be mistaken but you don't need either if you want to wait 30days...

Yes, you can go the "report of transfer" route if the gun dealer is willing. It amounts to the same thing, with a longer wait, and one that you can repeat each time you purchase.

That route is detailed in 624.7132, and it's theoretically seven days, not 30.

Doesn't that imply damage to the environment? The name may bring greater wrath than the term "Assault Weapon"...
