I was abit surprised no one had posted this yet.

Quote:
Good Evening Minnesota,

Below are several emails that I sent out yesterday to all members of the House
and Senate. Today, Representative Dave Olin added his name to HF 498 (the Stand
Your Ground bill) and Representative Marty Seifert added his name to both HF 498
and HF 775 (the RKBA Constitutional Amendment bill). That’s the good news.

The report from the Senate is the DFL is in lock step with Larry Pogemiller and
no DFL’er has added their name or support to either of these bills. The boycott
is holding. Of course, Mee Moua is cooperating as an accomplice in the death of
these bills in the Senate. For that matter, no new Senate Republicans have added
their support either.

We know the first and second House committee deadline is March 23rd. If these
bills do not move out of the committee in the House before the deadline, they
are dead for this session. The Senate committee deadlines are not far behind.

Between now and next Friday, I am asking each of you to send very short emails
frequently and every day to all members of both the House and particularly the
Senate, asking that these bills be supported, given a hearing and moved out of
their respective committees for a floor vote. We are in the position of having
nothing to loose and everything to gain. Use the email tool on the
www.mnccrn.org website it will make this task much easier for you. Please sign
up for an alert on these bills and continue to email frequently each day until
you know if your emails were effective. I will update you as I learn more or new
information also.

These bills may die in committee as predicted, but they will certainly die in
committee if we do nothing and just give up now. Let me do the math. If each of
you took five or ten minutes and you sent just two emails to every legislator
each day, they would collectively get over 1,250,000 emails on these two bills
from pro-gun voters, EACH DAY. Your sending only four emails daily would be even
better, that would be almost 12,500 emails per legislator, EACH DAY. You would
all be very difficult to ignore. If everyone of you asked just one pro-gun
friend to help us and send emails well then, double these numbers. Perhaps they
know someone who they can ask to send emails too. You get the idea, the more
love we send, the more love they will feel from us.

Make some daily phone calls also to Larry Pogemiller, Mee Moua and Joe Mullery
if you wish. Let's keep them busy tending to our calls until they listen.

Please do not copy and paste my emails, you need to edit them and make them your
own words. Be polite. Pay attention to Bill numbers so you don’t ask a Senator
to support a House bill or Representative to support a Senate bill. Short and to
the point is better because 12,000 or more emails each day can’t be read anyway.

The decision announced last Friday by the Court of Appeals for the District of
Columbia concerning the DC gun ban clarifies the important need for Minnesotan's
individual right to keep, bear and use arms to be protected by the Minnesota
Constitution. This bill merely submits the proposed Constitutional amendment to
the voters. If you have recently added your name to those above thank you,
otherwise please add your support to this bill and become an author today.

The protection we enjoy in our home, the castle doctrine, is what this proposal
extends to citizens while away from their homes. We already believe people
should not have to retreat from an attacker while in their homes. Why make them
retreat from an imminent attacker when they leave their homes and may be in
unfamiliar surroundings, before they can defend themselves? Turning ones back on
a threat of death or even serious bodily harm at a time like that is not a good
idea.

Of concern is the often fuzzy line between substantial bodily harm and great
bodily harm. We know rape for example is not just bodily harm, but when is it
substantial bodily harm or great bodily harm? How long must a victim allow an
attack against her before it moves to great bodily harm and she can then use
lethal force to stop the threat? A rapist is not likely to give a victim his
assurances that he will only harm her to substantial bodily harm and go no
further (to death or great bodily harm). This bill clarifies when the use of
deadly force is authorized. This bill will save lives, many of whom could be
women.

If you have recently added your name to those above thank you, otherwise please
add your support to this bill and become an author today.

If you received this eBlast from another gun owner friend, I invite you to sign
up to receive your own eBlast so you are guaranteed to get every important
notice about legislation that affects you, and notification of all Gun Owners
Civil Rights Alliance events in St. Paul and all around the state.

If you happen to know other responsible gun owners, please share this eBlast
with every one of them also. Please make a paper copy for those who do not have
access to email. Our thousands of supporters are diverse but we all share one
thing in common, we want to preserve all of our rights as gun owners. Just
follow this link and complete the information
http://www.mnccrn.org/ccrn_old/ccrn.html.

If every one of Minnesota’s 500,000 hunters and other gun owners who perhaps do
not hunt, were a sponsor of GOCRA, then no Bill should become law that we did
not support and no person should be elected to any state office who did not
deserve our “A” rating.

Although we have our friends on both sides of the isle, we also have enemies in
the legislature as well. They are very busy with their clever attempts to take
away your rights. If you add your voice to ours, we can stop these very
dangerous Bills from becoming law.

I've received a response already from several sponsors and even a civil reply from Mee Moua.

No problem, I just copy and pasted the email into the quote. I sent totally different emails to both houses. I figured the receipients would know how to contact the committee chairs.

Received today - must be having an impact!

Quote:
Good Evening Minnesota,

Alright, before I plunge into business, I feel the need to massage your self
esteem a little, just a little. Let’s see, how about… Is that a new gun you’re
wearing?

Okay, now some old business. For those of you who may not know, we have some
anti-gun trolls on our list. We have known they were there but I wanted you to
know so you also understand that what I share with you also goes directly to the
other side. So if you happen to think I am not providing you with all the
information I could provide you, your right.

Today’s new business includes a panic email from CSM to their people (thanks
JR). They are of course alarmed over your sending so many emails to our
legislators. In addition to more sensible gun control they also appear to
support sensible email control too. Email control means emailing your target!

So keep up the good work everyone and let’s continue to be the elephant in the
room. You are effectively getting our message out to the right people. Olin and
Seifert added their names to HF 498 and Olson was added to HF 775 since the last
eBlast. Please email or call (or both) the committee chairs in the House and
Senate and ask them to schedule a hearing on the bills immediately. Continue to
send short emails to others. The cause is righteous so this is a numbers game
now.

If you wish to testify before the committee, ask the Legislative Assistant of
Mee Moua (651) 296-5285 (Senate) and Joe Mullery (651) 296-4262 (House) to add
your name to the list for these bills. Then prepare a short written statement
that you would read to the committee (read your testimony, do not wing-it).
Email your comments to me if you want someone to review them. You don’t need to
explain the bill, but rather explain why you know it would be a good law for
Minnesota.

Thank you for emailing me with your responses and also posting them on TC Carry.
Since these messages are basically public, please email me with your specific
thoughts or ideas and we’ll discuss them privately.

It’s About Liberty, Your Liberty.

Here are the replies I recieved. Sparks doesn't even mention SF 446, which I also brought up.

Thank you for your email and sharing your concerns regarding SF 669. I appreciate the personal time that you sacrificed and will keep your input in mind as this bill moves forward in the Senate. Thanks again and please do not hesitate to contact me with any other questions or concerns that you may have.

Sincerely,
Dan Sparks

Thanks for sending the note on these two bills. As yet I haven't
signed on to them, but will keep your comments in mind as they move
through the process. I appreciate you keeping me in the loop.

This was all with in a half hour. And with out reading Kimberman's post http://www.twincitiescarry.com/forum/vi ... php?t=4493 I would not have known about the "clone" bills, and would have gave up. You can learn a lot from a gun nut.

Sen. Gerlach,
You have in formed me that you are in support of Second Amendment
rights, and I would hope that you would sign on as a co author of SF669.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Clydesdale

Thanks for the note Clydesdale. I would like to assure you that I am
supportive of this legislation, and that I work closely with the chief
author of this bill, Senator Pat Pariseau. At this time, this bill has
been introduced, and it already has a chief author and four co-authors,
the maximum allowed by Senate rules. Although I am not a co-author on
this bill, I will be voting in favor of this when I have the chance.
Please keep in touch.
Sincerely,
Chris Gerlach
State Senator

Sen. Gerlach,
I'm no politician but couldn't you introduce several "clone" bills, each with only 5 authors (and don't request a hearing on the clones). If that is not true please let me know. That way it shows the public that you are on board, and I can send a thank you email and not a call to support email. Thanks for the quick response, and support.
Sincerely,
Clydesdale

Thanks for the note Clydesdale. I would like you to know that I am pursuing drafting up clone bills on this for myself and other legislators to sign onto. I agree with you that this can help to build more momentum, and it helps us to stay on the offense with Second Amendment rights issues. Thanks again Clydesdale for your interest in this issue, and please keep in touch.
Sincerely,
Chris Gerlach
State Senator

Sen. Gerlach,
I applaud you on your efforts to further our Second Amendment rights. I will be watching SF669 for additional co-authors.

Do you think you could do the same for SF446 the "Castle Doctrine" bill? I have to say I'm impressed with your efforts so far. Once again thank you for your timely response and your support of Second Amendment rights.
Clydesdale

I received notice today that HF775 received a vote of 67 to 63 to "lay on the table". Since my Brooklyn Park representative (Mike Nelson) voted Yea to this motion, I'm assuming this is a bad thing. Does this basically mean the bill is being set aside and will not be taken up again?

If that's the case, I'll be calling and writing Mr. Nelson to let him know this really crosses the line.

Thanks for your input.

Shawn

I'm not sure what that effectively means, but you can see the vote here

That's exactly what it means. From the CSPAN glossary:

Quote:
To lay a bill, resolution, amendment, appeal, or motion on the table is to dispose of it permanently and adversely.

I am pissed off at the results, but I am pleased that my representative, Jeanne Poppe, a DFLer, voted our way. She will be getting a nice e-mail from me in the morning.

Don't be PO-ed. We did what we meant to do, namely, kept the other side playing defense. Eventually, we will get some of what we want, so we just keep trying and trying. We lost just one round in this prizefight, but only on points, and not by KO. We showed that we have clout, and can mobilize some troops. Some eyes were opened today, and we may find more ears open to us in the future because of this.

We easily had 50 people there, and the Mommies' showing looked pathetic by comparison. (and most of them were PAID to be there!) Add that to the fact that even the Reps couldn't make sense of some of their babble, and we looked great.

You Capitol newbies might take a liking to this, and start more regular showings, and eventually become experts. Good. New blood. The experts we have can't do it forever, and eventually the torch must be passed.

Next step? More of the same.
