It certainly seems straight foreward and clear to me. But not to government employees and their minions, who want to disclose as little as possible.

Visiting with a County Attorney the other day, I was told that the Data Practices Act and Open Meetings laws were horribly drafted, some of the worst statutes in Minnesota. I suppose if he wants to tell people what they want to hear, that documents and conversations can be hidden, he would think so. Anyway, that's his perpsective.

Everything is open unless it's not, and of course they leave it to him to come up with a good faith basis for NOT.

Most government peoiple call the Data Practice Act the Data "Privacy" Act, that is an insight to the way bureaucarcy views it. We're probably lucky to have the law we have.

Hmm. I wonder if I can draw up references to particular sections of law now. I was told a couple of years ago that I am not allowed to see any police reports in which I wasn't a party involved in the case. They asked me why I wanted to see them and insisted that my reason wasn't "good enough."

Now I'm curious. I want to go back after that after brushing up on the law better.
