I know Bill's sells the Day Planner holster set up. I have thought about that several times, just never pulled the trigger.

Quote: Vests... I'm not sure about vests. It's just not a common piece of clothing these days, no matter what kind of vest we are talking about. 90% of places were I usually go a vest would make one stick out like a sore thumb.
How about fleece vests? Old Navy used to sell them by the truckload, so I don't think they are that out of style or uncommon. Fleece vests are great cover garments for most of the months in MN: late fall, winter and early spring. Plus, unlike the 5.11 vests, I think they make you look more like a sheeple and less like a sheep dog.
In fact, here's one from REI.

TJM-style - IWB holster velcroed to a separate belt worn indepently of the pants. The holster can worn either IWB or deep-concealed, and can be quicly moved from one to the other.

(Note - you can do this with any IWB holster and any belt you can sew velcro to.)

I find there's enough room in my front pockets on my utilikilt to hold a small gun quite nicely

I have been using my Smartcarry and it is working out great. I have not used a 'fanny pack' but it would work also.

They are great bags - I am actually going to go get one next week - the only thing is that they are a lot bigger than they really need to be for a day to day bag or concealment device.
They would be great for air travel - they hold a ton of crap

A question for people who use a sidebag (see! I avoided the word "manpurse"!)
If you use this as your carry method, does the bag go with you everywhere?
I could see aproblem with bringing a bag like this into a retail store. Do you just leave it in your car if going in somewhere, or is it always on your side?

I used to have a fanny pack that I loved - my wife hated it - so she "accidently" broke the buckle.
I bought that thing in 1993 and have been using it ever since - it is a lot like a maxpedition fat boy and I loved it.... For Shame......

Depends on the store and the size of the pack. I carried a sidepouch (see! I avoided the use of the word "manpurse" too!) for a while and never had a problem at any store.

I would keep it on my side if it contained a firearm. If they asked to check my bag I'd probably explain why I'd rather not

I don't know that it's big enough to carry a weapon in, but I'd be leery of carrying in a bag that's a potential target for thieves and something that's easily detachable from my body anyway. It's a purse. Whatever you want to call it, it's still a bag for carrying around personal items. Purse, manpurse, tactical portable equipment carrier, whatever. Me? I carry a purse, and don't give a damn what anyone else thinks about it or calls it.
And as long as you have that attitude, it makes it pretty hard for anyone in retail to ask you to check it or leave it in your car. Unless they ask everyone carrying a purse to check theirs as well, they have no right to ask you to check yours. I don't think they're likely to ask 90-something percent of all women to leave their purses in the car before they come in the store. Why let them discriminate against us men?

To hell with it
Lets call it a Manpurse.... I am secure enough in my life to call it that.
Who the hell cares..... I like having "MY STUFF" with me all the time. My 5.11 Vest is FULL - perhaps a manpurse is the way to go.............
I am waiting for Blackhawk to come out with a small Battlebag - with a velcro back panel pouch and a sized down mag holder area - flashlight loops cell phone slot and an organizer area....
BLACKHAWK - Are you listening?

Nah, without your vest, I'd be worried that I might be the first one shot. That guy in the parking lot last night barely noticed me when you peeled off and flanked him you know. I LIKE looking harmless.
