New MPD officer feedback tool offered online

Quote:
March 26, 2009 (MINNEAPOLIS) The Minneapolis Police Department has created a new online form that makes it very easy for the public to share their feedback, positive or negative, on police officers and the work they do. The MPD is constantly striving to lead the way in law enforcement service and is committed to being a department that serves with integrity and honor. Chief Tim Dolan is pleased with the new accessibility and states that “the largest key to earning our citizens’ trust and support is being accessible, transparent in our operations, and accountable to the public. This new medium for feedback, along with squad cameras, supervisory oversight of pursuits and use of force reviews, makes us much more accountable. These tools have aided in reducing injuries and the associated costs to both officers and arrestees.”

The department encourages the public to share information on notable efforts by officers, as well as complaints of potential misconduct. Having this information allows the MPD to more accurately assess officer performance and make necessary changes more quickly.

The web page allows people to submit compliments for officers or department units they believe have done exceptional work. Any compliments shared by the public will go to the Office of the Chief of Police. They will be placed in the officer’s permanent personnel file and could even result in an award from the Chief. Police Chief Dolan is dedicated to commending his officers and reinforcing good police work, and this new tool helps make that possible.

It’s also critical that the MPD hears about potential misconduct. In Minneapolis, complaints can go to either the Minneapolis Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit or the Minneapolis Civil Rights Civilian Police Review Authority. The online tool allows Web visitors to file complaints with either of those offices.

For more information on submitting a compliment or a complaint, visit http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/forms/m ... en-report/

The PIO contact for this release is Sgt. William Palmer.

"It's true!" said the chief. "Why, I was just saying that to my wife, Morgan Fairchild, the other day. Yeah, that's the ticket!"

But what about residents that have neither been arrested nor charged, nor are officers. .. but whose doors have been brutalized? How are we going to keep their costs down?

I am glad this was posted in isolated incidents. Something tells me that a negative enough review could inspire them. They didn't need probable cause before, why should they need more than a negative review to suspect you might have ________ or________ in your house, which they obviously need to kick in your door for.

So, people can complain, but the complaint can't be read online?

"Transparency". I do not think this word means what you think it means.
